Yosef Newcomb, known as Joey Newcomb, is an American Jewish musician recognized for his work in contemporary Jewish music.

Early life and background

Newcomb was raised in Kew Gardens Hills, New York. He attended Talmud Torah Siach Yitzchok and later transferred to Yeshiva Shaarei Arazim for his high school education. He continued his studies at Yeshivas Mir in Jerusalem.[1] Growing up in a musical environment, Newcomb was influenced by prominent Jewish musicians such as Shlomo Carlebach and Abie Rotenberg. He began playing the guitar at an early age and participated in leading kumzitz gatherings and various musical performances during his time in yeshiva.[2]

Newcomb's career began with a performance at a sheva brachos, leading to increased interest in his music. His performances became well-received within Jewish communities, leading to increased invitations to perform at various events.[1] Known for his interactive performance style and heartfelt music, Newcomb blends traditional Jewish themes with contemporary sounds..[3]

His debut album, To Be a Yid, was released in January 2019 and included popular songs such as “Thank You Hashem” and “Bnei Hamelech,” which resonated with audiences and established him as an emerging figure in the Jewish music industry.[4] His music often conveys themes of hope, gratitude, and connection to Jewish faith and identity.[3]
