In May 2024, it was announced that John Lee Hancock would direct the film Monsanto, based on the Johnson v. Monsanto Co. legal case, from a script by Hancock, Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, and Ned Benson. Glen Powell is attached to play attorney Brent Wisner, who sued Monsanto on grounds that their herbicide Roundup contained glyphosate, which caused high school groundskeeper Dewayne "Lee" Johnson, played by Anthony Mackie, to contract non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Laura Dern will star as toxicologist Dr. Melinda Rogers, who testifed in court that the herbicide was certainly safe. Adam McKay and Kevin Messick will produce under their Hyperobject Industries banner.[1] That same month, Netflix acquired worldwide distribution rights to the film for around $34 million at the Marché du Film.[2]
