Pop was an Italian free-to-air children's TV channel, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment Italy. It is also the Italian version of the homonymous British TV channel.

The channel launched on 4 May 2017 and closed on 11 July 2019 after Mediaset bought the channel and Cine Sony's slots.

History

[edit]

The channel was launched on 4 May 2017 in replacement of NekoTV, on channel 45 of digital terrestrial television.[1][2] The channel starts broadcasting with an episode of Power Rangers RPM.

Since 24 July 2017 to August 2017, a tour called Pop Invasion was held, that teached younger children to know the characters of the channel's shows with various types of activities.[3]

Since 6 November 2017 to 4 July 2019, the channel was available through Tivùsat.

On 11 July 2019 the channel finished broadcasting along with sister channel Cine Sony[4], being replaced by Boing Plus.[5] On satellite, the channel continued to broadcast loop promotional footages until 6 AM, when a light blue screen replaces broadcasting.

The channel's speaker was Marco De Domenico.

The channel's advertising was managed by Viacom International Media Networks Pubblicità e Solutions.[6]

The channel also had the Pop App, available on App Store, Amazon Appstore and Google Play.[7]

Programming

[edit]

The channel also had two programming blocks, which include:

  • Pop Art, programming block that teached how to draw the characters of the channel's shows.
  • Pop Corn[9], programming block that broadcast animated movies.
