The Memory Police is an upcoming science fiction film directed by Reed Morano and written by Charlie Kaufman. It is based on the novel of the same name by Yōko Ogawa.

Premise

A young author living on an island where things disappear with no explanation nor do the citizens remember anything, discovers her editor is able to remember the things disappeared, and must hide him from The Memory Police, who are working to ensure the mystery remains intact.

Charlie Kaufman revealed he was approached to adapt the book during an August 2020 interview and was researching it.[1] It was announced in October 2020 that Amazon Studios had hired Reed Morano to direct the film, with Kaufman confirmed to write the screenplay.[2]

In January 2024, it was announced Lily Gladstone was cast to star in the film, with Martin Scorsese joining the production as an executive producer.[3]
