Visit the Nordics[edit]
Visit the Nordics (Kettlingur Ferðir ehf) is an online travel agency.[1][2], a hub for scattered tourism companies to resell their tours in one place and online blog based in Reykjavík, Iceland[3] (Iceland´s capital Reykjavík (Reykjavik) is the world's most northerly capital and Europe's most westerly capital[4]). The organisation's main purpose is to captivate the interest of the masses in and promote traveling to the Nordic Countries, which are Iceland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Svalbard[5]
Foundation[edit]
Visit the Nordics was initially founded in December 2021 as Países Nórdicos . Initially, the purpose of the company was to showcase the Nordic Countries and promote them as travel and holiday destinations to Portuguese-speakers, mainly in Portugal and Brazil. The company was established in Reykjavík, Iceland, in December 2021[6]. Due to pre-licensing limitations, the company limited itself to establish agreements with other companies based in Iceland. Once the Icelandic Tourism Board (Ferðamálastofa) emitted their operating license[1] (2022-007) the company was finally able to establish commercial agreements with other day tour providers and travel agencies from Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Svalbard.
Rebranding and Growth[edit]
During the first year the company worked mostly with Portuguese and Brazilian customers, soon to rebrand as Visit the Nordics. The webpage and all social media were translated from Portuguese to English and the target expanded to cover major areas of interest on an international level. By the end of the first year of activity, the travel agency closed with a positive balance of 3.477.071 ISK according to the Icelandic Tax Office[6]. During the year of 2023 the company dedicated itself to expand to other cold travel destinations, unrelated to the Nordics, such as Antarctica, Patagonia, Switzerland and Nepal. Sweden, Finland and Denmark were left behind as city tourism, being replaced by a new section dedicated to Lapland.
Community[edit]
Visit the Nordics reaches their customers through several channels such as Google Ads, Meta Ads, organic Facebook and Instagram posting, TikTok and also through their community of active followers on their own Facebook Groups. The company has also been doing a consistent effort to post one blog entry per day about the most varied Nordic locations and topics.
