Guadalupe, or Guadeloupe (Spanish pronunciation: [ɡwaðaˈlupe]) was originally a Spanish toponym that derives from the Persian word for trench, graben or gully (Guadal گدار Guadar گودال) and the Latin word lupus, meaning wolf.[1] The name referred to the river Guadalupe in Spain.
