K.A.R.D (Korean카드, also stylized as KARD or K♠RD) is a South Korean group formed by DSP Media in 2016. The group is composed of four members: J.seph, B.M, Somin and Jiwoo. They are planning to release three project singles; with every new release a hidden member will also be revealed before their official debut. On December 13, 2016, they released their first project single titled K.A.R.D Project Vol. 1 with the track Oh NaNa featuring labelmate Heo Young-ji as the first hidden member.

History

Pre-debut

Member BM is a former Kpop Star contestant.[1] He was featured in Goo Ha-ra's song "La La La" on her debut extended play Alohara (Can You Feel It?), and was her dance partner for the lead single "Choco Chip Cookies".

From 2012 to 2014, member Somin was a member of DSP Media's Japanese girl group Puretty with releasing singles "Cheki☆Love" in 2012, "Shuwa Shuwa BABY" in 2013 and then disbanded in 2014 with plans for the members to re-debut into other groups.[2]

In mid-2014, Somin reached the finals of Kara Project, a television programme in which seven trainees competed to become the new members of label mates girl group, Kara. She made it into the finals and finished at the second place.[3]

On August 24, 2015 Somin debuted as the leader of DSP Media's new girl group April.[4] On November 9 of the same year, DSP Media announced that after a long discussion, concerning her future, with the agency, Somin has decided that she would definitely be leaving the group.[5][6][7]

K.A.R.D Project Vol. 1

On November 30, 2016, DSP Media released the first teaser announcing the group.[8] On December 1, the agency revealed the first two members: B.M and Jiwoo.[9] On December 2, J.seph and Somin were introduced.[10]

DSP Media released solo performance videos for members Jiwoo and J.Seph on December 6.[11] On the same day, they announced their first project single titled, K.A.R.D Project Vol. 1 and that they would hold a debut showcase, Debut Party on December 12 at Queen Live Hall. On December 7, solo performance videos for members BM and Somin were released.[12] On December 8, Kara's Youngji was announced to be a hidden member for the group's project single, Oh NaNa and its teaser music video teaser was revealed.[13][14]

The group released first project single K.A.R.D Project Vol. 1 with title track Oh NaNa on December 13, 2016.[15] The song was produced by Nassun, who made a cameo appearance in the music video, and was written by members B.M and J.Seph. Their Oh NaNa music video reached 1 million views on YouTube on December 18.[16] They released a dance version music video of "Oh NaNa" on December 21.[17] On December 25, they released the Oh NaNa choreography practice video within fun the members dancing and playing around.[18]

In the group's name each letter represents a "card" attributed to a specific member.

Permanent members

  • J.seph (제이셉) was born Kim Tae-hyung (김태형) on (1992-06-21) June 21, 1992 (age 32) in South Korea.[19] He represents the letter A and the Ace card.
  • B.M was born Matthew Jinsuk Kim or Kim Jin-suk on (1992-10-20) October 20, 1992 (age 32) in Los Angeles. He is a former Kpop Star contestant.[20] He represents the letter K and the King card.
  • Jeon Somin (전소민) was born on (1996-08-22) August 22, 1996 (age 28) in South Korea. Somin was a former Puretty[2] and April[7] member, and took part on the Kara Project where she finished in second place.[3] She represents the letter R and the BlackJokeR.
  • Jeon Jiwoo (전지우) was born on (1996-10-04) October 4, 1996 (age 28) in South Korea.[21] She represents the letter R and the ColorJokeR. She is a former FNC Entertainment trainee.

Hidden members

Hidden members are featured in the songs and participate to promotion without being completely part of the group. They represent the letter D in the group's name.
