Alastair Cook has scored 35 centuries for England.[1]

Alastair Cook is an English cricketer and captain of the England national cricket team [2] in the Test format. He has scored centuries (100 or more runs in a single innings) in Test and One Day International (ODI) matches on 30 and 5 occasions respectively.[3][4] As of 25 July 2016, he has played 131 Tests and 92 ODIs for England, scoring 10,446 and 3,204 runs respectively. He is the youngest batsman to score 10,000 or more runs in Test cricket,[2][5] and has scored the most Test runs as an opening batsman.[6] Cook was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2016 Birthday Honours.[7] In 2011, the International Cricket Council (ICC) selected him as their Test Player of the Year.[8] Wisden named him as one of their cricketers of the year in 2012.[9]

In 2006, Cook became the sixteenth English cricketer to score a century on debut,[10] against India at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, Nagpur.[11] His score of 294, against the same team at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham, in 2011, is the sixth highest total by an English batsman in Test cricket.[12] Cook has scored Test centuries at 20 cricket grounds, including 14 at venues outside England.[13][14] He has scored centuries against seven different opponents, and is most successful against Pakistan, India and West Indies, making five each against them. In May 2015, Cook became England's all-time leading run scorer in Test matches, when he went past Graham Gooch's tally of 8900 runs. As of July 2016, he is thirteenth overall, jointly with Australia's Don Bradman, among all-time Test century-makers,[15] and top of the equivalent list for England.[16] He is also England's all-time leading century-maker across all formats, with 34 centuries to his name.

Cook made his ODI debut in 2006 against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford, Manchester.[17] His first century came against India at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, in August 2007.[18] His highest score in the format is 137 runs against Pakistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, in 2011.[4] Cook played four Twenty20 International (T20I) matches between 2007 and 2009, without scoring a century.[19] His highest score in T20Is is 26.[2]
