Malvern College Egypt (MCE) is a British international school located at B2-B3 South Ring Road Cairo, Egypt. It is operated in a partnership between UK-based Malvern College and the Azazy International Group. The college's first international school in the Middle East, it opened in September 2016 with 350 students and 35 expatriate teaching staff.[1]

Opening

The College was formally launched in December 2014 by the British Ambassador to Egypt, John Casson, at an event also attended by Prince Michael of Kent, members of the British Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Egypt, former First Lady of Egypt Jehan Sadat, Egyptian actor Omar Sharif, British actress Liz Hurley, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and singer Gabrielle.[2][3][4]

Governance

The College is a partnership between Malvern College UK and the Azazy International Group.[5] The founding headmaster is Duncan Grice who previously worked at Dulwich College Suzhou.[6]

Education

The primary teaching language at Malvern College Egypt is English. From Pre-Nursery through to Year 11 students study an enhanced form of the English National curriculum. In Year 9 pupils begin the two-year international GCSE syllabus followed by A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12. There is also a year 13 pathway available.[7]

Staff and facilities

The College is unique among schools in Egypt in being both managed in partnership with a British independent school and in having teaching staff who have exclusively attended British universities.[8][9]

As of 2017 facilities include a library, science laboratory, media centre, music studios, music practice rooms, a 25m six-lane swimming pool, a beginners’ pool, a netball court, a basketball court, a 5-a-side FIFA 2 all weather surface pitch, a 450 seat theatre, food technology and an art and design technology workshops. Additionally, there is a medical centre, parent lounges, a coffee shop and a central piazza.[10][11]
