Mangaon is a small town (and taluka) in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is located in the Raigad district, 92 kilometres (57.2 miles) from Alibaug headquarters, and 146 kilometres (90.7 miles) from the state capital of Mumbai, towards the Panjim side.[1]

Industrial development

The Vile-Baghdad M.I.D.C. industrial zone, which is located in Manga, was previously in a dilapidated state due to a lack of investment. However, it has gained importance in recent times. It houses various steel companies, including POSCO LTD. A major infrastructure project, Tata Power Ltd.'s hydroelectric project, has greatly reduced the need for additional energy generation in the Mangaon Taluka and industrial zones in Raigad.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technical University

The Dr. Babasaheb Technological University, Lonere, was established in the Mangaon taluka and caters to industrial and technical industries. It introduced several courses in petroleum and chemical technology into rural areas. The university draws students primarily from Konkan, but also from other parts of Maharashtra, including Marathawada Vidarbha and West Maharashtra, many of whom attend the university to pursue courses such as petrochemical and petroleum chemical engineering which are only taught in a few universities across India.

Konkan Railway

The development of Mangaon was boosted by the arrival of the Konkan Railway. Mangaon and Roha are the only railway stations near a taluka in Southern Raigad.

Mangaon is the nearest railway station for Shrivardhan, Dive Agar, Hari-Hareshwar, Mhasala, Tala, Nijampur, Mahad, Raigad and Poladpur; hence, it provides employment for several groups, including Auto-Rickshawala, Minidor, and Taxi-Van drivers, who provide service to more remote locations from the Mangaon railway station.

Transport

MSRTC

Mangaon has its own MSRTC Bus Depot, located along NH-66 Panvel-Kochi Highway. Buses departing from Shrivardhan Depot and Mahad Depot exclusively stop at Mangaon. Buses from the Mangaon depot depart from either Goregaon or the old Mangaon bus stand.

Mangaon is the split point for buses heading down towards Konkan from Mumbai. Buses heading to Dapoli-Mandangad, Shrivardhan-Mhasala, Mahad-Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar, and Khed-Chiplun-Ratnagiri/Panjim change their routes according to their respective destinations.

Attractions

Mangad fort is 15 km from the taluka market area of Nijampur, and lies in the Manjarwane Panchayat area. The fort consists of one main gate connected to a chain of mountains. Kumbhe waterfall is nearby.

Raigad fort in Mahad taluka is 22 kilometers from Mangaon, making the town a convenient access point to the fort.

Tirupati temple is a special place in Mangaon that is considered highly important.

The hydroelectric project at Bhira is a place of interest for visitors interested in industry. It generates power for the whole taluka.

Mangaon is also famous for:

· The temple at Kadappa.

· The sports centre at Khardi.

· The Ganpati and Mugawali Temples along the river Kaal.

· The temple of the local goddess Vakdai.

· Sunil's Celebrity Wax Museum at Lonavala.
