The two-part OVA received mixed reviews from a number of online review sites. On IMDb, it currently holds a 6.7/10, whereas on anime-planet.com, it only received a 1.5/5. On another site, myanimelist.net, it received a 5.5/10, meaning a little over half of the people who reviewed in on that site gave it a positive review. Having never been officially released in English (though a number of fansubs are present), it has never truly received any reviews the likes of which their English-spoken counterparts have received, making it difficult to find very many reviews on the OVA. Rotten Tomatoes doesn't seem to have a review on it, whereas another site known as filmschoolrejects.com mentions it as a cartoon made exclusively to sell action figures of the characters made by the now-defunct Japanese toy making company Takara, later on in the review referring to it as a production "just entertaining enough to make them worth your time."
