"One"
Song

One is a song by Swedish house music group the Swedish House Mafia. It was originally released in Sweden on 6 June 2010. A vocal version titled "One (Your Name)", featuring American singer Pharrell Williams was released in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2010.

The song debuted on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe on 22 April 2010. A month later the vocal version featuring Pharrell Williams was played. "One" has peaked at number two in Belgium (Flanders) and on the UK Dance Chart. It reached number one in the Netherlands, number seven in Ireland and on the UK Singles Chart. It also charted in Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria and Germany.

Writing and production

"One" was written and produced by Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. The lyrics in "One (Your Name)" are written by Pharrell Williams. According to Angello the vocals were recorded in Australia over a year ago prior to the release, and were initially intended for another song. He said, "We took that and tried it on One and it worked. Well, it worked after Axwell Melodyne'd the crap out of it! [...] it's kind of old skool, chopping up one vocal and turning it into a whole dance track.".[1]

According to an interview in Future Music magazine (issue 229), the track was composed in Logic using various plug-ins such as LennarDigital Sylenth, Sonic Charge Synplant and Native Instruments Kore (processed with iZotope Ozone). Pharrell's vocals were heavily processed in Melodyne and the final track was mixed and mastered at Metropolis Studios London on an SSL console.

Critical reception

Nick Levine of Digital Spy gave the song four out of five stars and wrote: "'One (Your Name)' is a booming electro-housey club banger boasting an ear-snaggingly simple synth line, trancey whooshes aplenty and cred-boosting vocals from Neptunes star Pharrell Williams [...] it's neither original nor refined, but boy does it hit the spot."[2]

Music video

Videos were made for both the Pharrell Williams and the instrumental Version with little changes made between them. The videos both start with someone setting up a Teenage Engineering OP-1 with visuals on the screen. It then cuts to an eye with some of the song lyrics in it(only in the remix version). A party then starts with different people dancing, with the camera angle changing. Fire breathers, dancers, bodybuilders and people with masks are all featured within the party scene as well. A the video comes to an end everyone at the party seems to go a bit crazy with one person spraying a fire extinguisher at everyone, it then cuts to quick shots of a lady having sex with someone, the Teenage engerineering op-1 breaking up and someone dancing on the table. As masked man then seems to hit the lady behind the table and she then falls onto the table, however, the masked man can be somewhat identified to signify David Guetta, by the tattoo on his arm which reads "F*** ME, IM FAMOUS", being David Guetta's album title. This could be interpreted as a dig at David Guetta's song, "50 Degrees", which is claimed to be an imitation of the Swedish House Mafia hit, with an extremely similar beat, and synth line, the ending of the video in all suggesting that David Guetta "stole the song", signified by the man stealing the keyboard.
