Pawn Sacrifice is a 2014 American biographical drama film directed by Edward Zwick and written by Steven Knight. The film stars Tobey Maguire as Bobby Fischer, Liev Schreiber as Boris Spassky, and Lily Rabe as Joan Fischer. The film is set to be released in the United States on September 18, 2015.[1]

Plot

In a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. Also starring Liev Schreiber and Peter Sarsgaard, Pawn Sacrifice chronicles Fischer's terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world.

Production

Production on the film began in early October 2013 in Reykjavík, Iceland.[2] In mid-October 41 days of shooting began in Montreal, Canada, which were wrapped in Los Angeles on December 11, 2013.[3]

Release

The film had its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2014.[4] On September 10, 2014 Bleecker Street Media acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the film, the company's first acquisition. The film is set to be released in the United States on September 18, 2015.[1]
