Ray (surname)
Ray is a surname which may have several different origins.[1]
In Eastern India, Ray, a variant of Rai is surname generally given as a feudal title. In Bihar, it is generally a surname of people from the Bhumihar community. In West Bengal, it is a surname of people from Bengali Kayastha or Bengali Brahmin community. And in Odisha, this is a surname associated with people from the Kshatriya community.[citation needed]
