Sangareddy, earlier known as Sangareddypeta is the district headquarters of Medak district in the state of Telangana in India. It is 50 km from Hyderabad MGBS bus station and is located on Hyderabad—Mumbai Highway (NH9). It was named after the ruler Sanga, who was the son of Rani Shankaramba, ruler of Medak during the period of Nizams.[citation needed] With a population of more than 150,000 it has been graded as 1st grade municipality. Present MLA is Chinta Prabhakar from TRS party.

The Manjeera dam is constructed across the river Manjeera with main objective of providing drinking water to Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The Dam is situated to the North-West of Hyderabad at about 50km (6km from Sangareddy the headquarters).

Rajiv Gandhi Park as inaugurated by K.Roshaiah and constructed during the administration of MLA Jaya Prakash Reddy.[citation needed] The park has very wide spaces, people generally will come for morning walks and for yoga.Evenings and weekends its busy with crowd and its a good place for refreshment too. Fountain dance show here is the one which we have to talk about, its good with music and lightening for the fountains which sprinkles the water according to the music.

Economy

The city has three large-scale public sector industries in its constituency. These are BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited-One of the MAHARATNA companies of Govt. Of India), BDL (Bharat Dynamics Limited, where one of India's most powerful missile PRITHVI was produced), Ordnance Factory Medak (which manufactures the Sarath tanks for the Indian Army). It is also known for Pathancheruvu which is the biggest industrial corridor in Asia.[citation needed]

The city is categorized into Old Sangareddy and New Sangareddy. Old Sangareddy is well-renowned for its bazaars and old district jail, which has been converted to a jail museum.[1] The roads in the area are quite busy during the festive seasons including Dassera, Diwali, Vinayaka Chaturthi and Ramzan.[citation needed] The City has got Bus Depot.There are two bus stations in Sangareddy namely, New Bus Stand and Old Bus Stand.

Education

An IIT (Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad was established in 2008 near to Sangareddy at Kandi, 4 km away at present IIT is at Ordnance Factory Estate.

And also JNTUH College of Engineering Sultanpur at Sultanpur which is near by the city has been established recently.

Politics

TRS party is presently Ruling the city but doesn't shows enough Development progress.

Transport

Road

Since Sangareddy is near Hyderabad, it is well connected to other areas like Hitech city, DLF Gachibowli (appx 35 km away), Panjagutta and Secunderabad. The NH-9 is passes through the city. Sangareddy has two Bus Stations, the Old for Ordinary service and the new for luxury and other services.[citation needed]

About 15km Away from Sangareddy there is an outer ring road which connects to Shamshabad airport- Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad and to Gachibowli and Medchal.

Rail

The nearest railway stations are Lingampally which is about 30km, Secunderabad about 50km and Nampally Station around 55km.

In coming years it is expected that there will be Metro rail/ MMTS track to connect the city to Lingampally.

Air

Nearest Airport is Hyderabad International Airport which is 40km from Sangareddy.

Places of Interest

Vykuntapuram Temple

It's like Mini thirupathi in telangana which is located in Sangareddy. Pilgrims from different regions do come here for darshan of Sri Srimannarayana swamy ( Lord Venkateshwara). The Ambiance in the temple makes you to feel like you are in thirupathi temple. The Idol of Lord Venkateshwara swamy is similar to the one in thirumala with 3 muka dhwaras. Especially during Saturdays, Public holidays , and on festivals days will be fully packed with the public who come for darshan. One must visit the temple for its beautiful and peacefull ambiance when you come across this sangareddy city.

Kondapur Museum and Sangareddy Jail museum

Kondapur, a historical place of third century is near by Sangareddy.

Sangareddy city Jail , now has been turned to a museum which is filled with ancient and precious monuments.
