Sillage describes the ability of a perfume to emanate from the wearer and penetrate a room with its fragrance. It is the French word for wake, as in the trail left by a boat in water.[1]
A perfume with low sillage may be chosen when the wearer wants to be discreet and not affect others, such as at work or at a restaurant.[1]
