Singapore Indoor Stadium (Chinese: 新加坡室内体育馆, Pinyin: Xīnjīapō shìnèi tǐyùguǎn; Malay: Stadium Tertutup Singapura) is an indoor sports arena, located in Kallang, Singapore.
History
Singapore Indoor Stadium was officially building of construction on 1 January 1985 as officially groundbreaking to building at a cost of S$ 90 million with the arena was designed by Japanese architect's Kenzo Tange and has a cone shaped roof and a pillarless arena.
Singapore Indoor Stadium was officially completed on 1 March 1987.
Singapore Indoor Stadium was officially renovated on 1 February 1988.
Singapore Indoor Stadium was officially opened to public on 1 July 1988.
Singapore Indoor Stadium was officially inaugurated and grand opened by the 1st Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore's Harry Lee Kuan Yew on 31 December 1989.
The stadium is within walking distance of the Singapore National Stadium. With the opening of CCL Stadium Station in 2010, Singapore Indoor Stadium is made more accessible to the public. Visitors could exit via exit A from the station to Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Capacity
Due to its flexible stage configuration, the capacity of the stadium varies from 7,306–7,968, during concerts, to 8,126–10,786, during sporting events. Its full capacity is around 12,000.
Usage
Concerts and shows
The stadium has hosted concerts by many famous artists, spanning many different genres.
On 1 April 1998, Toni Braxton held the Secrets Tour it was officially 2nd studio album's Secrets was officially released during the concert on 1 July 1996 based in Republic of Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, Republic of Singapore, Negara Brunei Darussalam and Commonwealth of Australia from to show sold out in 5-hours tonight of the few-months at the Indoor Stadium during his first concert in Singapore.
MediaCorp's star-searching shows, Project SuperStar and Singapore Idol Grand Finale were held in SIS for all the seasons. Many singers like Kelvin Tan, Kelly Poon, Daren Tan, Lydia Tan, Taufik Batisah, Sylvester Sim, Hady Mirza, Jonathan Leong, Sezairi Sezali and Sylvia Ratonel were crowned as Champion and 1st Runner up of the competition in SIS.
The arena also plays host to family entertainment, such as ice-skating shows, circuses and magic shows, operas and musicals, among others.
In 2004, the 5th IIFA Awards took place to honor the artistic and technical excellence of professionals in Bollywood.
South Korean boy band Super Junior held their Super Junior 3rd ASIA Tour, Super Show 3 for two sold-out nights on 29–30 January 2011.
In 2009, on 23 March, Coldplay played show on their Viva La Vida Tour. 9,474 out of the 9,503 available tickets were sold, earning the band $1,186,331.
On 3 February 2010, Muse played a sold out show on their The Resistance Tour.
On 9 February 2011, Taylor Swift held the Speak Now World Tour at the Indoor Stadium, marking the first show in her first ever world tour. All 8,964 tickets were sold out, earning her $916,850.
On 7 February 2011, American R&B singer Janet Jackson held her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour there for the second time after 16 years despite having some songs banned in Singapore.[1] She performed there
Heavy Metal group Iron Maiden held the The Final Frontier World Tour on 15 February 2011 at the Indoor Stadium, marking their first Singapore event. 9,785 out of the 11,401 available tickets were sold, earning the band $1,111,850.[2]
On 23 February 2011, Eagles played a sold out show on their Long Road Out of Eden Tour.
On 19 April 2011, Justin Bieber held the My World Tour at the Indoor Stadium during his first concert in Singapore.
On 9 May 2011, The Canadian singer Avril Lavigne performed a sold out concert for her The Black Star Tour at the Indoor Stadium.
On 14 May 2011, Show Luo performed a sold out concert for his 'Dance Without Limits' Encore World Live Tour.
On 25 November 2008, Kylie Minogue performed here on her KylieX2008 World Tour. 7,259 out of the 10,599 available tickets were sold, earning her $1,043,518.
On 29 June 2011, Kylie Minogue performed a sold out concert for her Aphrodite World Tour at the Indoor Stadium for the 2nd time.
On 1 August 2011, The Cranberries performed a concert at the Indoor Stadium.
On 11 August 2011, James Blunt performed a concert at the Indoor Stadium.
On 21 August, Paramore performed at the Indoor Stadium; this was their second concert in Singapore, following the first on 7 March 2010. The concert had to be stopped halfway through, to pull out all the fainted bodies from the mosh pit.
On 26–30 August 2011, Cantopop Legend, 'God of Songs' Jacky Cheung held his Jacky Cheung 1/2 Century World Tour.
South Korean boy band SHINee held their first solo concert "SHINee WORLD" on 10 September 2011.
Irish boyband Westlife held their concert from the Gravity Tour on 3 October 2011.
On 29 November 2011, Mnet Asian Music Awards prize ceremony was held for the first time in Singapore.
Korean boy band TVXQ will hold their TVXQ Asia Fan Party at the Indoor Stadium in Singapore on 4 December 2011.
Korean girl group Girls' Generation will continue their 2nd Asia Tour: Girls' Generation concert in Singapore Indoor Stadium on 9 & 10 December 2011. The tickets were sold out for both nights.
Korean boy band Super Junior two concerts as part of their world tour Super Show 4 Tour on 18–19 February 2012.[3]
On 20 March 2012 singing superstar Jessie J performed her last date of her Heartbeat Tour in front of 4,000 people.
On 28 April 2012, the iconic Japanese rock band L'Arc-en-Ciel continue their 20th L'Anniversary World Tour 2012 concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. It's their first time concert in Singapore.
Lady Gaga performed 3 sold out shows at the venue on 28, 29 & 31 May 2012 during her Born This Way Ball Tour, making her the first western act to perform 3 nights at the venue. Renowned DJ Zedd was the opening act. A total of 30,952 tickets were sold for the 3 concert, earning her $4,744,331.
Russell Peters performed 2 shows at the venue on 5 and 6 May 2012 on his Notorious World Tour. The first show sold out within a couple of days, and when the second show was open to public for sales, it also sold out within a couple of days.
Korean boy band Big Bang performed in the stadium on 28 & 29 September 2012.[4]
Korean girl group, 2NE1 performed their 2NE1 New Evolution World Tour 2012 on 1 December 2012.[5]
South Korean boy band SHINee held their second solo concert "SHINee WORLD II" on 8 December 2012.
Sports
WWE has held events there, with the WWE brand Raw in 2002 and the WWE brand SmackDown! in 2003. On 28 July 2007, the stadium played host to both the SmackDown! brand and the ECW brand in the SmackDown! SummerSlam Tour.
Since 2006, the stadium is home to the Singapore Slingers basketball club that used to compete in the Australian National Basketball League and is now seeing action in the Asean Basketball League.
On 30 November 2008, the Philippine Basketball Association played a game on that venue between the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters and the San Miguel Beermen.
The stadium was the venue for the opening ceremony of the first 2009 Asian Youth Games.

History
The Indoor Stadium is Singapore’s largest and most versatile indoor sports and entertainment venue.
Officially opened in December 1989, the Singapore Indoor Stadium has a flexible arena that can be arranged to accommodate both small (2,500 spectators) and large crowds (up to 12,000 spectators). The Stadium has been used for various major sport events, entertainment events and concerts performed by international superstars such as Elton John and Janet Jackson. In 1999 and 2000, the stadium hosted the Tennis’ Heineken Open, and welcomed players such as Marcelos Rios and Lleyton Hewitt.
The Indoor Stadium is also no stranger to world-class badminton action. The Aviva Open Singapore is a high-profile tournament that has been held there since 2004. The Indoor Stadium has since seen the crowning of top-seed players such as Lee Chong Wei, Peter Gade and Zhang Ning at the tournaments.[6]
Stadium Waterfront
Behind the indoor stadium, there is a waterfront section known as Stadium Waterfront, which has retail shops and restaurants. These offer alfresco dining, along with occasional street markets.
