Thrawn: Alliances is a Star Wars novel by Timothy Zahn. The book is a sequel to Zahn's 2017 novel Star Wars: Thrawn. It focuses on Grand Admiral Thrawn's partnership with Darth Vader,[1] whom he meets at the conclusion of Thrawn.

Plot

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader are sent on a mission to the unknown regions to explore a disturbance in the Force felt by Emperor Palpatine. The mission is more than that however, as Thrawn's split loyalties between the Empire and his native people the Chiss and Vader's past as a Jedi require a test of loyalty for both.

Recalling a rescue mission during the Clone Wars when Thrawn assisted a lone Anakin Skywalker, this story tells two tales of Thrawn and Vader working together in very interesting ways.

Development

The book was announced at the New York Comic Con in October 2017.[2] The novel was scheduled to be released on June 26, 2018,[3] but was later delayed to July 24, 2018.[4] In November of 2017, the cover artwork was revealed.[5] On March 23, 2018, an excerpt was released on the official Star Wars website.[6] The excerpt was the first canon appearance of the planet Batuu, which will be featured in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a new expansion set to open at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.[7][8]
