Sukhera people inhabit Southern Pakistani Punjab and in adjacent areas of India on the opposite side of border. They ruled large parts of the Indian subcontinent, as kings and tribal heads.

Sukheras claim descent from Sukha, son of Thirpal, a Tonwar Rajput. Sukheras are one of the main Pro British Raj tribes of Punjab. Sukheras have close family linkages with Wattu and Bhatti tribes. Raja Anangpal was a Raja of Tomar Rajput. His sons Raja Tejpal and Raja Tehenpal were the forefathers of the Tomar Meos. Colonel Todd states that the word pal means mountains. In the nineteenth century, Sukheras started living in Abohar Tehsil Ferozpur, India. In the beginning of the nineteenth century, Abohar was uninhabited, and the vicinity was a desert.

Muslim Sukheras migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and established themselves in South Punjab as landlords. Later, Sukheras established residence in Arifwala, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur Lodrhan, Haroonabad,Minchin Abad Fort Marot (in Tehsil Fort Abbas), Depalpur and Lahore. Sukheras also have traces from Sanghar in Sindh.

If we talk about profession, mostly Sukheras are Land lord, some running their private businesses, doing jobs in Public and private sector, doctors, engineers, professors and also serving in the armed forces and CIA.
