Glorious Óengus

[edit]

My reading of the text of Baile Chuind, as published in translation on mayjones, is that the king following Suibhne Meann is Domnall mac Áedo, described as a "glorious Óengus". Marcas.oduinn (talk) 10:47, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

However, see Eoin O'Flynn, Clann Cholmáin c.550-916, p.44, note 7: "Murphy took 'Óengus' as an epithet of the following Domnall, i.e. 'Domnall shall be a glorious Óengus', but both the more recent edition and scholarship prefer to see a simple list with 'Óengus' representing a separate individual." Therefore, leave the text as is, and add Óengus to the list of kings in Baile Chuind (List of High Kings of Ireland#Kings in the Baile Chuind) Marcas.oduinn (talk) 23:49, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
