What sport
[edit]I assume that more than one sport held national championships in the US in 1889: should the article title (or indeed, some element within the article) identify what sport is being discussed. I guess from the scoring method it is tennis, but an encyclopaedia should not leave readers having to guess.
- Kevin McE, you are correct in pointing out that an article should not be unclear or ambiguous in this regard and have added the word 'tennis' to the lede to clarify. There are many tennis competition articles with this shortcoming. Perhaps the assumption behind leaving out the name of the sport is that readers will arrive at these competition articles via the parent article, in this case 1889 U.S. National Championships (tennis), and therefore know what sport it is. This does not have to be the case however as readers can arrive directly at the competition article via linking or searching.--Wolbo (talk) 15:33, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
