Talk:1990s in video games
Beginning the article
[edit]I will begin editing this article on August 1st. I am a little tired after completing the Culture of the 1990s page, so I will take a brief hiatus on editing. If by chance I am bored, I'll edit it sooner. (Tigerghost (talk) 12:46, 28 July 2008 (UTC))
Other
[edit]"The real-time strategy (RTS) genre is introduced in 1992 with the release of Dune II." What about Herzog Zwei, released in 1990 on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis system, which is the first RTS? As I don't have enough knowledge about article-editing in wikipedia to do this, I would appreciate if someone would do it. Quir0 (talk) 18:27, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
-If HZ was a "real" RTS by the modern definition as set by Dune 2, instead of a proto-typical example, I would consider it. - Anon — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.3.23.14 (talk) 14:58, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Class changes and combining abilities from multiple classes
[edit]I've removed the erroneous claim that Final Fantasy III allows characters to combine abilities from multiple classes, a feature which was not introduced to the series until Final Fantasy V. Final Fantasy III's job / class system only allows each character to have one class at a time. The only things carried over from other classes in Final fantasy III are stat gains. 1988's Dragon Quest III allows characters to retain classes after changing classes, which should probably be mentioned in the history of video game consoles (third generation) article unless the feature was present in an earlier game. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 21:22, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Pokemon image
[edit]The pokemon picture on the article is not from a 90's pokemon game. I think a screenshot from Red or Blue version would be more appropriate for the article. - SuperTiencha (talk) 18:30, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

bits
[edit]The 90's was a mix of 16 and 32 bit gaming because some 16 bit games were still coming out for the 16 gaming system. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.82.187.246 (talk) 15:00, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Revamping best-selling section
[edit]I'm going to be bold on this one, but I think that the "best-selling" section seems sloppy. I think it would look much better with "Notable video game franchises established in this decade" with a condensed list. I'm going to go on ahead and work on replacing it. Tell me your feedback when I get done, and whether or not it should be standardized to fit all the other decade game pages. (Tigerghost (talk) 10:56, 7 March 2012 (UTC))
Nintendocentric
[edit]There's no mention of Crash Bandicoot here, even though it was just as much an influence on 3D platforming as Mario 64 was (released around the same time, but with a completely different approach to the then-new genre); I understand that Nintendo was a/the major force in the industry throughout the 90's, but Crash Bandicoot's lasting success has been phenomenal, as was the standard it set in its day; it was, like Mario 64, truly ahead of its time. 143.92.1.41 (talk) 01:44, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Feel free to add something about Crash. The 1990s was a jam-packed decade of good games and it does merit mention. I'm not familiar with the series, so during my edits, I didn't mention it. Perhaps you could fill in some of the gaps. (Tigerghost (talk) 22:37, 1 May 2014 (UTC))

Dynamite Headdy
[edit]I'm a little surprised Dynamite Headdy was referenced as a prominent game from the 1990s. I would have thought other games developed by Treasure have made a larger impact or legacy. That said, maybe I'm missing something particular about the game at the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.103.245.187 (talk) 19:21, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
