Sports
Does anyone know if India has finally formed a organizing committee? And if so, what sports they're going to include? I would guess cricket is number 1 on their list, heck maybe they'll try a Twenty20 tournament, a 1 day tournament and a test tournament for good measure :-P Nil Einne 22:48, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
Test tournament? In 11 days of competition? HOW? j km 06:30, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- No one said it has to run during the 11 days of competition. Some team events (cricket was one) started early during the 1998 Commonwealth Games. You could spend 3 months on a test tournament before the start of the games with the Twenty20 and one day tournament either being played after or before or during the test tournament. Then after the opening ceremony you have the first Twenty20 final followed by the other 2 (or 1) finals (of course you don't need to have 3 finals for the Twenty20 but it's fun right?. 2 days later you have the One day final then you have the test final on the last 5 days.
- Like this:
- Opening ceremony & Twenty20 final 1
- Twenty20 final 2
- Twenty20 final 3 (if necessary)
- Rest day
- One day final
- Rest day
- Rest day
- Test final day 1
- Test final day 2
- Test final day 3
- Test final day 4
- Test final day 5 & closing ceremony
- 11 days of competition and the opening ceremony day. It all works fine! Also I guess simultaneously, you have the bronze medal matches going on too. Okay admittedly you'd have to convince everyone to attend the 3 month (or whatever) round robin and semifinal stages for the tests in India but that's just a minor issue :-P
- Anyway according to the 1998 Cricket in CG page, Delhi 2010 is probably not going to have cricket because the BCCI want One dyers but the CG federation want Twenty20s. Nil Einne 16:50, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Delhi or New Delhi?
Some sources say that it will be hosted in New Delhi, while others state Delhi, which is it? --Joey80 06:26, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know but I assume that it will be hosted in Delhi with parts of it being specifically in New Delhi. But you are aware of the differences between the two terms right? It's described in Wikipedia fairly well Nil Einne 09:34, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- Based on the venue list, 'Delhi' looks to be the best descriptor of the games' location. It's also the name used in the logo. I'm therefore changing the opening paragraph to reflect this. Radagast (talk) 19:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- I always see it printed in the news specifically as New Delhi. While the games take place all over Delhi, the HOST CITY is indeed New Delhi.--Львівське (talk) 01:15, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Images
I don't know who will ever read this, seeing as I seem to be one of the only/few people working on this article... but I'll try anyways. We need better and more images for this article. We have a few relevant images, but none is particularly attractive, and a lot of sections could use an image or two. If you have anything, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you! Participants
Are Israel, Yemen, Afghanistan and others really sending teams to the 2010 commonwealth games? On the Commonwealth Games page it suggests that some countries like Tokelau plan to send teams, and other applicants to the Commonwealth including Rwanda and Yemen might one day. Is there any reliable source which states all these 85 teams will participate? YeshuaDavid (talk) 20:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Tokelau probably and Rwanda perhaps (as Commonwealth members) though was Israel ever mentioned? Just as other small islands like the Falklands and Norfolk Island have. Yemen took part in as 1962 & 1966; see South Arabia at the Commonwealth Games. In the meantime, could country pages for 2010 use the following template, although I have not removed Fiji or added Rwanda; will wait and see: Hugo999 (talk) 07:45, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- (Hugo999) - see my post about Rwanda below. From discussions I had with the Tokelau government, had the country voted for the same status as Cook Islands, etc, there would have been a team at Delhi. However they are not minded to send a team while the current constitutional arrangement is in place. Just one small correct Yemen per se has not taken part in the Commonwealth Games. In 1962 the team was from Aden and in 1966 the team was from South Arabia, neither or which equate to Yemen taking part. To use that argument one could say that China took part because of the years that Hong Kong participated. Historyboy2010 (talk) 23:17, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- one other thing I have had discussions with people associated with both Chagos Islands and South Georgia and they are keen to take part in a future Commonwealth Games but feel the obstacles placed before them are too great Historyboy2010 (talk) 23:21, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Ecological impact and Human Rights violations
Most of this page reads like it was written by a PR agency for the Games. I've made additions to reflect some of the controversies regarding the ecological/ human rights record of these games. Please add more information, if you can. Link to information about the financial/human/ ecological effects of hosting large games on cities etc. Shara lover (talk) 16:28, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Reductions
I've hacked off a good ten kilobytes of prose, which actually represents a reduction of about 40% to the previous total amount! I have done this in two ways: (primarily) the condensing of material into a concise paragraph and (secondly) plain removal of unrelated or tangential information. For example, projections of Indian transport capacity for 2030 did not seem relevant. Some was pure promotional tripe, such as quotes from Mr Amit Goyal and shtick like "The very essence of India with its diversity and unrelenting endeavor towards a harmonious and progressive nation has shaped the inspiration of the baton". Boring and, more importantly, it says jack all about anything. Let's keep on topic and avoid giving the life story of every Uttam Sigh here. Link to the games sport page vs sport page
In Section 4: Calendar and Section 5: Sports, links for the various sport link to the sports page and not to the sport at the 2010 CWG page. I think this should be changed (in line with the Olympic games page). Any objections? --Natrajdr (talk) 04:18, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- I think there is good reason to provide a link to both the page describing the sport and the page describing the details of the competition at the Commonwealth Games. Firstly, it is likely that people would be interested in both targets. Secondly, a single link such as Football is actually not very intuitive to our readers – something we should be trying to avoid where possible. I think the most straight forward method is (in other words) having the word "sport" link to that sport, while the details of the competition are found by clicking "details". I'm actually going to argue that the Olympics games page should be changed in this respect. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Join WikiProject Athletics! 09:53, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Rwanda
The Commonwealth Games Federation has announced that Rwanda will make its Commonwealth Games debut in Delhi - see http://www.thecgf.com/countries/intro.asp?loc=RWA Historyboy2010 (talk) 23:12, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've added in the info as mentioned. That-Vela-Fella (talk) 15:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Fiji
As Fiji has been suspended by the Commonwealth the article states that Fiji has been banned from competing - which does raise the question of the "independence" of the Commonwealth Games Federation. Historyboy2010 (talk) 10:36, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- It may just be following the rules of competition for those members of the Commonwealth only in good standing. I see no problem there. That-Vela-Fella (talk) 15:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Commonwealth Games Associations at 2010 Commonwealth Games
Can someone is who is not a newbie please write these articles. I tried but because I was a newbie I was subjected to a patronising rant about how I should check my articles with an administrator first - and every single one has been listed for speedy deletion. This appears to be an attack on new people writing articles. Historyboy2010 (talk) 14:39, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- I saw the protection tag was removed the other day for this topic. Was that the problem before? Try again now. That-Vela-Fella (talk) 15:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Medical tourism section
Im not the type to simply delete a section - but the medical tourism section seems unsubstantiated and without citation. MacarismTalk 13:37, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- I went ahead and excised it - I simply can't see what it has to do with the article, plus it was unsourced and it seems speculative at best. Here the text of the excised section: "Commonwealth Games is expected to bring a boom to the medical tourism industry. With already millions of patients traveling thousand miles to receive affordable medical care and treatment, the games are going to drive millions of fans to Delhi. Medical areas, especially dental and cosmetic treatments, which are mostly day care procedures and are quite expensive in countries outside India, can expect a significant increase." 59.101.40.40 (talk) 02:01, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Criticism / Controversies had been removed
The whole criticsm and controversies section had been removed in the last days. I have added the section back in, considering the amount of newspaper articles that are presenting the current bribery charges about the preparation works for the Games. --Azchael (talk) 07:15, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
- The information there needs to be adequately summarised, focusing on the most significant themes and leaving lesser themes and greater specifics to the sub-article. SFB 22:45, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- I think some people apparently are trying to minimize(or cover up) the issues. There are reports, eye-witnesses, pictures everywhere that the Village towers are "filthy and uninhabitable"[1] with dogs soiling on the beds and wire and sockets hanging loose, human remains in the units, etc etc[2]. India have every reason to host the Game, but I seriously think the day should come after 10 years. Many people like to compare India and China. I think they have more than 20 years gap. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.238.0.71 (talk) 04:19, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- I am a member of the organizing committee for the Delhi games, and all I can say is that the report of shortcomings is monkey crap, everything is fine and up-to-date at the venues, don't believe the media. 200.35.240.182 (talk) 18:37, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Controversies in the lead
I feel with the amount of press coverage in the last 48 hours that some mention of the controversies surrounding the games should be include in the lead. Bjmullan (talk) 08:07, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

update
Alot of this article seems out of date, unless none of the preparation and construction has been completed. It keeps saying "will be" instead of "has been" . 76.66.200.95 (talk) 05:55, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
