Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because this article should be necessary, to list all the tropical cyclones which from in the 2013-2014 cyclone season, just like the 2012-2013 South West Indian ocean cyclone season article. -- ✯Earth100✯◕‿◕ Talk Contribs 14:46, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This article is not needed until at least July 2013, so for now it is best redirected.Jason Rees (talk) 17:20, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

July Tropical Disturbance[edit]

We need to remember that MFR DID NOT assign a number to the July Tropical Disturbance or issue any advisories on it despite considering it a tropical disturbance.Jason Rees (talk) 20:37, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I don't think it should be mentioned. A tropical disturbance (note lower case) is different from a Tropical Disturbance (with a number). Unless MFR assigns a number later, or ends up including it in their yearly stats, I don't think it should be here. It's similar to "depressions" in the Atlantic in the 1980s. They weren't tropical depressions, and they weren't numbered, nor were they included in the BT. For every basin but WPAC, I'd love if it was limited to the numbered storms from the warning centers, but that's just me being radical. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:41, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think it /could/ be added to the SS/OS section at the end, but don't put in the storm sections for now. YE Pacific Hurricane 14:39, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with that thinking.Jason Rees (talk) 15:02, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that the storm should still be included, because although it may be have been part of the "tropical cyclone season," is was definitely part of the "Tropical Cyclone year." In addition, they probably wouldn't designate weak systems that formed before the official start of the 2013-14 cyclone season. However, the storm was still tropical, and the agency tracked it as a tropical system. I believe that a storm shouldn't be thrown out of the article just because it didn't get an official designation, as it may very well be part of the 2013-14 Tropical Cyclone year (June 2013 - June 1014). LightandDark2000 (talk) 00:01, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's how it works on the northern hemisphere basin pages... Especially the NHC basins. Disturbances and waves that are noted in the Tropical Weather Outlooks do not make it onto the page. I imagine that is something analogous to what MFR did for this disturbance. If it did affect anything and is notable, then I wouldn't argue against putting it in an "Other storms" section or something. atomic7732 00:14, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new, young and don't have an account but I believe that as stated above it is put in other storms as it was tropical and tracked by the MFR. 121.219.161.11 (talk) 21 40 26/12/13 AEDT- JR

The NHC naturally doesn't include Tropical Waves, because they don't meet the criteria of being a tropical cyclone (e.g, having a closed, low-level circulation). But as for this system, it is notable. It formed outside of the normal boundaries of the South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season, and that's kinda of a rare event. LightandDark2000 (talk) 23:05, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not really since there isnt a season anymore per the WMO.Jason Rees (talk) 05:48, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's interesting. But when and why did they do that? LightandDark2000 (talk) 00:16, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
TBH I dont know that there ever was a season for the whole ocean rather than the countries.Jason Rees (talk) 19:34, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Systym looks pretty organised for a disturbance 12:24 3rd Jan 2014 AEST- JR
