Is there a reason for having "Initial Surname" in the qualifying stages but "Colloquial_forename Surname" in the finals? EG "A. Murray" and "Andy Murray"? -- SGBailey (talk) 09:27, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Please add {{wikinews|Djokovic defeats Federer to win 2015 Wimbledon Championship men's singles}} to the finals section. I have been reverted twice. And I don't see any good reason to be reverted.

Not done. I see, conversely, no good reason to add that content. I expect WikiNews has articles about many Wimbledon games - there's no need to link any of them. Huon (talk) 18:06, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: Why so? Wikinews may have the articles for a number of matches, but the 2015 Wimbledon mens finals: only one. And that is what I am asking. And I am asking this because of Wikipedia:Wikimedia sister projects.

Wikipedia encourages links from Wikipedia articles to pages on sister projects when such links are likely to be useful to our readers, and interlingual crosslinking to articles on foreign-language editions of Wikipedia whenever such links are possible. Isn' it useful, yes or no?

In my opinion it isn't. A news article about the finals will not improve our readers' understanding of the championships in general - certainly no more so than a news article on any other specific 2015 Wimbledon game, say one of the semi-finals, or the quarter-finals, or whatever other 2015 Wimbledon games WikiNews may have articles about. Where would you draw the line, and why draw it there? Huon (talk) 18:54, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: I am asking that template to be placed at the finals section. And the article is not about Wimbledon but of 2015 years' edition of the grand slam. Wikinews doesn't have news of any other Wimbledon match in 2015.

I wasn't aware that WikiNews' coverrage was so spotty, but that does not change the basic issue: I don't see how a news article on a single match improves our readers' understanding of the tournament. Huon (talk) 10:27, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon:No surprise that it won't cover every news since there is a small group of people active on Wikinews. Whatever it may be, just read the article at Wikinews, and I believe the article will speak for itself.
