Martinevans123 - A good point, it’s not really an “architectural” history, more a general history. KJP1 (talk) 18:43, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Or even a genealogical history, given his obsession with phoney pedigrees. KJP1 (talk) 18:52, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. Yes, fully agree. Might even slip a tiny bit of folklore in there. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:02, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Martinevans123 - Canon Davies who, in an odd coincidence, conducted my sister's wedding, is with you! KJP1 (talk) 18:28, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Is he really?! I knew I should have checked under the stairs. I often get them wandering in off the street. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:05, 12 June 2019 (UTC) [reply]

History historeria?[edit]

Yeah, the supposedly-amusing/clever header didn't really work out, sorry. But I'm a bit disconcerted by: A History of Monmouthshire [...] is a history of the historic county of Monmouthshire. I can see the problem you have and why it's tricky but I really think a reword that loses one or two histories there might make for an easier read. As I hate people who bring problems but not solutions (sorry), and I am only an IP address, and I should not be here at all because I am trying to take a break, I am now going to "stfu" as I understand the young people delightfully put it. Good luck, cheers and pip pip, 82.39.96.55 (talk) 12:08, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's the title? Too bad. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:17, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
82.39.96.55 - a very valid point, however. I shall look to vary the prose. KJP1 (talk) 12:37, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
KJP1 – that's very much better now, thank you. I am trying not to be here but I had to stop and say thanks! Best wishes to all 82.39.96.55 (talk) 20:09, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"We'd like to thank you, IP 82.39.96.55, for watching us and our little article here tonight. If you've enjoyed it, then it's all been worthwhile. So, until we meet again, good night, and we love you all!" **dabs tear from eye with hanky** Martinevans123 (talk) 20:21, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
HA! Was she before or after There were two old men sat in deckchairs ...? I can't remember now ... it seems to have been a little while ago ... 82.39.96.55 (talk) 21:16, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Per WP:COMMONNAME, shouldn't this simply be titled "A History of Monmouthshire"? That is the title on the cover of the reprint volumes I have. I know that, on the title page, it goes on to say "...from the coming....", etc., but that is really in the nature of a subtitle. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:14, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure - Worldcat gives the full title, [1], and the original volumes carry it, [2]. And there are other “Histories of Monmouthshire”, [3], [4], although none that currently have articles. Would Monmouthshire (historic) confuse readers? But not one I feel strongly about, and I concede it is an unwieldy title, so fine for it to be moved if that’s the consensus view. KJP1 (talk) 06:30, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Both the WorldCat and Ebay listings give the shorter title (in WorldCat's case, with a colon afterwards), and the titles of the other books don't start with the word "A ...". But, unless anyone else chips in to support shortening the title, there is no real problem in leaving it as it is. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:35, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
