[edit]Abby Portner is a notable creative professional. As an visual artist, most notable is probably the collaboration with the world famous band Animal Collective, her artwork, video art and design she made for them is seen by people all over the world. As a musician, she played at major music festivals like Midi Festival in France in 2006 with her band Rings and is on the roster of the All Tomorrow's Parties 2011. She was part of a selection of notable drummers in the art project "88 Boadrum" and "77 Boadrum" (who both deserve own Wikipedia articles). She opened for world-famous acts like Animal Collective and played shows not only in the US, but also in Europe and Mexico. It is very arguable if musicians who once were in famous bands like Kría Brekkan and Deakin are more notable as solo artists than Drawlings.
- Don't confuse dictionary-definition notability with Wikipedia-notability. In Wikipedia notability is a defined term with a very specific meaning. Though it may not look like it on first blush, there are strict policies on what subjects and content can and cannot be included in Wikipedia. In very general terms, before a person, place, thing, organization, or idea can be included in Wikipedia it must have
- already been recognized
- as important or significant
- by objective, independent, and provable third party sources
- with a established reputation for fact-checking
- which are independent of both the subject of the article and of Wikipedia itself.
- That's just a plain-English generalization of the actual rules to give you an idea of what's going on here, so don't rely on it but refer to the actual policies instead. (For a great analogy illustrating these concepts, see WP:SCRABBLE.) Without a working knowledge of Wikipedia policy it can be very frustrating to try to write an article that won't be deleted. I've tried several times to write a better introduction to editing than can be found at the Article Wizard and Your First Article and I can't. Don't be tempted to skip past sections of either one, they're full of solid gold information. Also, if you've not done so already, you need to read the Notability, Verifiability, No original research, What Wikipedia is not, and Conflict of interest policies from beginning to end. I just added to the article that renowned The Fader Magazine featured her in the magazine and portraited her on their website in 2010. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rigabro (talk • contribs) 21:12, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
