Pierce called "a rising talent" in Tess article

[edit]

This news item features Tess Dunn doing her first album with the help of Make-a-Wish Foundation. Tess, an eighth-grader has been battling cystic fybrosis. Pierce's husband, Ari Shine, is Tess' producer. Pierce is mentioned in passing as a "rising talent."

Baine, Wallace (February 7, 2009). "Young singer/songwriter Tess Dunn returns from a LA recording session ready to embark on a promising career". San Jose Mercury News. Bay Area News Group. Retrieved January 1, 2012.

From the news item:

Tess was surrounded by some high-octane talent during her recording session. The CD was produced by acclaimed singer/songwriter Ari Shine, who also contributed guitar and other backing instrumentation. Also along for the ride were fellow singers and songwriters Adrienne Pierce and Carina Round, and drummer Adam Topol, each a musician with strong industry credentials....

"Shine's music has been heard on the TV series "Veronica Mars." Topol has played with the hugely popular Jack Johnson. The Canadian Pierce is a rising talent, and the British-born Round has put out several major-label releases.

...

"She's (Tess) a great intuitive songwriter," said Shine, the album's producer and a former UC Santa Cruz student. "Her voice is really passionate and from the heart, and she does a really broad range. She's got a nice high range that she doesn't do too often, but when she does, it's pretty powerful."

Tess said she does not overtly write about her health challenges in her music. Instead, in songs such as "Scar Tissue," "One Heart's Battle" and "Marionette of Me," her main focus is the same theme that inspires legions of other songwriters: love.

"She's had some life experiences that are pretty unusual," said Shine. "And that really surfaces in her songwriting. I just feel fortunate to be around her."
