Puritan or Presbyterian (or both)

It is my understanding that, when used historically, the term "puritan" should only be applied in an English context (including English settlers in North America (and subsequent American generations) and English congregations in Europe). Scottish presbyterians of the period may have had much in common with English puritans but there were a distinct group. However, the Catholic Apologetics reference does list Leighton as a puritan and so I am reluctant to edit the article to remove the word "puritan". Greenshed 00:12, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Puritanism is a broad category that included Scottish Presbyterians as well as Pilgrims to America.Brian0324 16:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
