Controversies
[edit]I have started a discussion thread at WP:BLPN re the controversies section and its attempted repeated removal. Please see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Allen Tannenbaum. —David Eppstein (talk) 21:49, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have reworded the section a bit and added an extra source. Hopefully when the block of the editor who was unhappy with this section expires, they will participate in this discussion thread instead of continuing to edit war. Nsk92 (talk) 00:12, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Joseph Deasy here. Following Dr. Tannenbaum's death, I updated the Wikipedia page. I also reviewed the controversy section and this controversy thread. I believe the section is not consistent with Wikipedia standards for the following reasons:
- 1. The story is not well-sourced. There are two mentions from the web-page of a local area news provide in Atlanta. However, they are sparse on details and the audit report mentioned is completely un-sourced. There is not quote from the Technion.
- 2. The story sounds highly unethical, and basically claims the Tannenbaums may have criminally defrauded Ga Tech for up to $2M. However, despite the allegations, this was completely disputed by the Tannenbaum's attorney; no charges were brought; and some kind of settlement was reached for a much smaller amount.
- 3. If Ga Tech was correct, it is not clear why charges were not brought.
- 4. Dr. Tannenbaum is not a public person according to Wikipedia criteria.
- 5. Not only were there no charges, but there was no conviction.
- 6. The Ga. Tech claims then fall under the category of unproved accusations against a private person.
- 7. Lastly, this incident has no clear importance in the overall context of Dr. Tannenbaum's life.
- For these reasons, I deleted the section. Joseph O Deasy (talk) 21:41, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
