Is "invented slow motion" the appropriate term?

[edit]

I am thinking "invented a device that could used to display slow motion" might be more appropriate. "Invented slow motion" seems wrong to me because:

  • slow motion does not seem the sort of thing that can be "invented",
  • more importantly, it implies that no-one had ever done slow motion before, such as by hand-cranking a movie camera faster than "normal", and playing it back at a slower speed.

Also, the reference I have added ( https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/86916/august-musger-priest-and-physicist-who-invented-slow-motion ) says that the possibility of producing slow motion was an "unintended side effect", and that what he was actually trying to do was reduce flickering.
