Yesterday I made some changes to the Australian Figure Skating Championships page, ie I changed some of the "not held" comments to "no award". Today the changes have reverted to "not held". However, there is a difference. "Not held" means just that: the championship event was not held in the year indicated. "No award" means that the event was indeed held, but that no championship was awarded. That is, the skaters in that event did not skate to championship standard and instead the winner of the event won the Australian Figure Skating Competition in the given category. I know this because my pair skating partner and I won the Australian Junior Pair Skating Championship in 1970. That year the following categories were held: Junior Mens, Senior and Junior Ladies, Senior and Junior Pairs, and Senior Ice Dance. I don't think that Junior Ice Dance had been an event at this point in time. Of the six events that were held, only the Junior Pairs and the Senior Ladies made championship standard. You can check this out with the official results records on the Australian Professional Skaters Association web page at http://users.bigpond.net.au/apsa/hist2.htm. My name was Miss J Ingrey and my partner was R Waluga; we were 1970 Australian Junior Pair Skating Champions, and we held the title until the event was held again in 1973 when it was won by Cherylanne Jupe and Brian Meek.
