The song lyrics were removed unless it can be proved that they are over 1400 years old or that permission had been given to cite them.--Esprit15d 22:54, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seems we could use a sample (NOT the entire lyrics) under fair use. Where does 1400 years come from? RJFJR 03:28, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should be removed too: "written by Kavi Pradeep (1915-1998) and composed by C. Ramchandra (1918-1982)". Test3 21:03, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

@MelanieN and Justlettersandnumbers: Hey there. This was briefly turned into a redirect and so appeared in the NPP Queue. While looking at it I discovered that the complete lyrics are posted. These lyrics were present going back to 23:50, November 23, 2006 (except for a time it was briefly removed and then restored in 2009) which is less than 500 revisions but obviously is incredibly old. I see no indication, from searches I have done, that these lyrics have been made OK for reposting here and indeed the article notes how royalties from the song are used suggesting it's still under copyright. Pinging you two as experienced sysop in this area to take appropriate measures. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:53, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, this a tough one! Present since 2006? I'm going to ask our resident copyright guru Diannaa to figure out how to handle this. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:14, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
MelanieN Thanks. I will sheepishly admit I meant to have pinged Dianna in the first place. I see JLAN has gone ahead with the RD. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 18:50, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) MelanieN, Barkeep49, I've removed them. Kavi Pradeep apparently died in 1998, and – according to our article on Copyright in India – copyright term for artistic works there is "lifetime of the author + sixty years", so these lyrics will enter the public domain in 2059. The status of the English translation, which was not attributed, isn't clear; but it may not become free to use at the same time as the original work. It's a little disturbing that this was discussed on this page in 2006 and 2007, but nothing was done until now – at least now it's done! Thank you, Barkeep! So basically we deleted the entire history (almost). I wasn't sure if we needed to go that far but I have no quarrel with you doing it.-- MelanieN (talk) 19:46, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers Let me also join in thanking you. I agree it's sad to see this was discussed nearly at the time and then was left unactioned. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:54, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
