Is it a CBBB subsidiary?

[edit]

Its decisions are labeled "© <year>. Council of Better Business Bureaus, Inc."--Elvey (talk) 20:53, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basically no. The CBBB is a separate council that is one of the founders of the ASRC, then known as NARC. CBBB provides the hard oversight of the system itself. You can find more information out on the CBBB website, but basically they are the body that keeps a watchful eye over the ASRC. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 21:54, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I wonder which parts of the empire are non-profit. The BBB seems to have hundreds of subsidiaries; in California alone, there are 14 Active Corporations with the name "BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU" listed at http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/cbs.aspx. Looking at the CBBB site now.--Elvey (talk) 22:49, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The National Advertising Division (NAD) does seem to be a subsidiary of of the Council of Better Business Bureaus; nothing on the site that I saw suggests otherwise. I see "Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus" - sure seems to be calling it a subsidiary, as I see it and "ASRC - A service of the advertising industry and Council of Better Business Bureaus" - all on the CBBB website. So basically yes. No?--Elvey (talk) 22:54, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Both the National Advertising Division and Children's Advertising Review Unit, as well as all other self-regulatory programs previously owned by the Council of Better Business Bureaus such as BBB AUTO LINE, are now all part of the non-profit organization BBB National Programs. In June 2019 the CBBB restructured, removing the self-regulatory programs from its umbrella. That organization is now called the International Association of Better Business Bureaus and no longer has any affiliation to BBB National programs or its self-regulatory programs. [1]

Warning to Editors

Be careful what/how you cite the CBBB website. The CBBB somehow blocks normal archival tools from its website, e.g. see http://www.webcitation.org/6CXy4xQCK and http://www.webcitation.org/6CXyFoAeO.--Elvey (talk) 22:54, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These links are dead because ASRC no longer exists. The new link for the National Advertising Division is bbbprograms.org/NAD and the new link for their appellate board is bbbprograms.org/NARB. The NAD/NARB/CARU procedures can be found at: https://bbbnp-bbbp-stf-use1-01.s3.amazonaws.com/docs/default-source/bbb-national-programs/procedures/caru_narbprocedures_8-18-2020.pdf?sfvrsn=d5226295_2. I recommend updating the page title for the ASRC Wiki page to BBB National Programs to accurately reflect the home for this content now that ASRC no longer exists. The case reports can be found in the Online Archive: https://bbbprograms.org/resources/online-archive — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.34.249 (talk) 15:45, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Title Request

[edit]

The current page title is Advertising Self-Regulatory Council (ASRC), which no longer exists. I am requesting that the page title be edited to say BBB National Programs, which is the name of the non-profit organization that now owns/manages the self-regulatory programs previously owned by ASRC. As of June 2019 the CBBB restructured and the self-regulatory programs represented on this page were brought under the new nonprofit organization, BBB National Programs. This page is out of date - ASRC and all relative links at the old ASRC web domain are now dead. The content now lives at bbbprograms.org webpages. The new title of the page should be BBB National Programs with all ASRC searches redirecting here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.34.249 (talk) 15:41, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Title Name

[edit]

I'm confused by this page because it's called 'Advertising Self-Regulatory Council,' but that organization no longer exists. All of the programs within this page are a part of BBB National Programs. Shouldn't the page be called BBB National Programs instead? Lrbierer (talk) 14:33, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?

[edit]

I was looking at this article wondering if it is notable, and found only two reliable secondary sources primarily on the National Advertising Division of the subject. I don't think the amount of reliable secondary sources justifies a stand alone from Better Business Bureau, therefore proposing a merge. The two sources are namely slate and a journal article

Regardless, the article needs significant cutting, way too much promotional / COI material added in the last few years. Justiyaya 15:23, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t think they should be merged - the article does say that the Better Business Bureau and BBB National Programs are no longer affiliated - it seems inaccurate to merge with unaffiliated organizations. 2600:1700:51B0:1490:D851:687A:A326:B166 (talk) 19:50, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
