A fact from Baker City Tower appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 16 January 2019, and was viewed approximately 17,557 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that even though the Baker Hotel(pictured) was nearly fully booked during the filming of the 1969 musical film Paint Your Wagon, it closed shortly thereafter?
The lead paragraph has a citation to the periodical "The Architect and Engineer". When I went to look at the reference, it turned out to be an advertisement. WP:SPONSORED clearly bars use of ads in most circumstances. In particular, the information drawn from the ad — the identity of the architect and builder — are things that should be easy enough to find in reliable sources. As a result, I am removing the reference and replacing it with {{Citation needed}}. (Note that I am not disputing the truth of the facts presented, just the quality/allowability of the particular reference.) — Ipoellet (talk) 21:10, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The architect is listed in many of the existing sources, so I put a ref directly after the first mention of the architect. I couldn't find any other source for the builder online except the one I used. The only think taken from that source was the name of the general contractor and roofing contractor, which seem uncontroversial. I found a few mentions of Almeter working on other buildings in Portland in that timeframe, but nothing else on the Baker Hotel. I think the source is acceptable for this purpose, (we allow using a person's or company website for some basic information). I changed the tag to "better" source needed.
