Fair use rationale for Image:Evertec-logo.gif

[edit]

Image:Evertec-logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:44, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent name change from "Popular, Inc." to "Popular Bank of Puerto Rico"

[edit]

@El Alternativo: Regarding your name change here, neither the old name ("Popular, Inc.") nor the new one ("Popular Bank of Puerto Rico") are correct for this article's title. This is because, per WP:TITLE, "Wikipedia...prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)." That is, we name articles based on the most used name in English language literature and not, as you indicated in your edit summary ("English version"), based on the literal translation from the subject's native language (Spanish) into English nor on how it is named in other E-WP articles. A search for the most used name in English-language literature shows that name is "Banco Popular de Puerto Rico"; so, that should be the name of this article. I'll wait a few days for comments, if you or anyone else is interested in commenting and, in the absence of comments, will re-move the article to that name. Hello, they use “Popular Bank” in their official English-language page. I did try to move it to “Banco Popular de Puerto Rico”, but there is a redirect there that prevents the move. “Popular Bank of Puerto Rico” was the second official option, and the only one available. Either option is better that the corporate “Popular Inc.” in terms of common use. Maybe an admin can move it. El Alternativo (talk) 00:59, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@El Alternativo: I requested here for an admin's help to have it moved. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 22:57, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Mercy11:: It’s a kinda hilarious to see an admin drive by tell us what the “common name” actually is. I have never seen “Popular Inc.” being used in any place but the corporate world, but, according to the latest move it’s the best choice. El Alternativo (talk) 05:30, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All the people I regularly talk to use Popular and Banco Popular interchangeably, but know the Popular is the holding company (the article), known in the 90ts as BanPonce. Nobody in Puerto Rico calls it Popular "Bank", nobody. And its vast mayority of clients are in Puerto Rico. A large mayority of its clients un mainland USA are native spanish speakers and also call it Popular or Banco Popular. El Johnson (talk) 14:44, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@El Alternativo: Yes, I was surprised to see him/her do what he/she did. He didn't address the request at all but went off to do something no one was requesting. In any event, seems all 3 of us, including Eljohnson15, are in agreement that the article should be moved to "Banco Popular". However, I am noticing now that "Banco Popular" is already a disamb page, so renaming it to "Banco Popular de Puerto Rico" seems like the most practical thing to do at this point and the only non-objectionable move. So, I'll wait a few more days to make sure you both have a chance to get this reply and to react to it if necessary. Otherwise, I will try to re-post at RM under "uncontroversial technical requests" (unless one of you beast me to it!). We can deal with making "Banco Popular" [de Puerto Rico] the default topic (the primary topic) at some future juncture and the other topics in the disamb page, minor topics. @El Alternativo: and @Eljohnson15: move requested here. Mercy11 (talk) 02:32, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be Banco Popular de Puerto Rico as to not bring confusion with the Dominican or Spanish bank.El Johnson (talk) 13:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, thanks for noting that. Mercy11 (talk) 23:05, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
