Vandalism

[edit]

The articles Bengali novels, Bangla rock and Bengali science fiction have huge amount of material on Bangladesh but very less on West Bengal. The article on Bangla rock has been redirected to Bangladeshi rock, a term which does not even exist! This is pure vandalism. If you see the History of these three articles to 2 or 3 years back, say the page as it appeared on 16 October 2010 or 2011, you find an unbiased article. I suggest this page be edited and then locked. I am forced to add the vandalism tag to this and other mentioned articles. AkhilKumarPal (talk) 20:17, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copy editing

[edit]

I copy edited up through "Origins" section. After that someone should continue, there's a lot of grammar and style issues. Editfromwithout (talk) 22:57, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article concerns

[edit]

(1) - By definition, I'm unsure whether Bangla rock is an actual music genre, or more a version or style of music that simply makes use of other existing music genres in a different language. I feel a need to question the word "genre" as its descriptor, and will likely request further opinion from other editors whom are more experienced in dealing with music genre articles. (2) - I have not followed nor attempted to verified any of the references or further reading links, but suggest that more inline citations be present in all text-based sections, whether they are added new, or simply relocated from page-bottom to more appropriate and/or reader-friendly positions. (3) - There are still areas of this article where the English grammar could probably be further smoothed out or simplified by someone who is more familiar with the subject.  -- WikHead (talk) 20:29, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not replying for long, actually I was a little busy these days. (1) - Its similar to rock music but it also uses some other instruments like flute, violin and some bands also use Indian classical instruments like tubla etc. in their music. Also, it has regional scenes in different countries. (2) - Most of the articles on the "Further Reading" section is about Bengali Band (Bangla Band), Rock music of Bengal and Rock Music Festivals of Bengal. It can be put on text-based sections. (3) - There are many places where you could help me smoothing out the grammar. Regards. Guitarist(talk|contributions)04:43, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Me again :) - (3) - I think I've gone about as far as I can go with English grammar support, as further grammatic editing may result in me accidentally saying something that you did not mean to say, and could easily wind up becoming an unintentional disaster of inaccuracies as a result. If you happen to know any language scholars with a good knowledge of the subject, perhaps you could ask them for further suggestions. (1) - I have asked questions concerning the encyclopedic definition of "genre" on the Infobox music genre talk page, but have so far seen no replies. This suggests to me that the definition must be OK... or at least it is for now, and probably won't require any further attention as I had first assumed. Regardless, the article currently maintains a rather clean overall appearance, and I wish it the best of luck with future developments. Stay well, and happy editing!  -- WikHead (talk) 12:50, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • How about this? I've attempted to reword the intro section with some alternate grammar. It's probably still not perfect, but it may be something you can work with...

Bangla rock is a music genre in which the song is written in Bengali language. It was originated in Kolkata, West Bengal by India's first rock band and first known Bangla rock band Moheener Ghoraguli. In modern times, this type of music uses distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, and drums, and is sometimes accompanied with piano and keyboards. In the early days of Bangla rock, these instruments were often accompanied by saxophone, violin, bass violin, and flute which can be heard in the music of Bangla rock band Bhoomi.

Facts about rock bands from Bangladesh

[edit]

The article seemed to be more Kolkata-centered even though the page is named as 'Bangla rock', since Bangla comprises of both West Bengal and Bangladesh, I have entered some information about Bangladeshi bands. I have changed the beginning section where it was claimed that rock music originated in Kolkata and Moheener_Ghoraguli(1975) was the first Bangla rock band whereas the fact is it originated in Chittagong in the 60s when Zinga Goshty was formed there while in other opinions Souls formed in 1970, in the same city, is the first Bangla rock band. I have also edited the History section. The sources of these information are given below [1] [2] Kmzayeem (talk) 16:34, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bands composing only English songs

[edit]

I've removed the bands which compose only English songs from the Popular bands from Kolkata section since it clashes with the definition of Bangla rock which is described as " in which the song is written in Bengali language " - Kmzayeem (talk) 16:49, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Underground Bands

[edit]

There are thousands of underground bands in both West Bengal and Bangladesh and at least hundreds of them can claim to be popular in their respective areas. Apart from this, there is no reliable sources added in this page regarding popular underground bands, therefore I'm removing the section. - Kmzayeem (talk) 17:10, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kolkata music vs. Bangladeshi music

[edit]

There are many talented musicians in Kolkata whose work i admire very much, so this is NO way meant to undermine anyone, but the title of the article seems to be specifically about "BANGLADESHI" bands. yet it seems kolkata bands have been mentioned, which is a bit confusing. therefore either the page should be classified as "Bangla Rock" (thus it can include all country bands which sing in Bangla) or else i guess it's better to limit the page to Bangladeshi bands only for avoiding confusion? what do u think? Faisal961 (talk) 09:34, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's better to limit the page to Bangladeshi bands! Go ahead! --Zayeem (talk) 12:59, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bangladeshi rockBangla rock – The page used to be at Bangla rock but was moved to Bangladeshi rock by Nomian (talk · contribs) in August 2012. A similar page Bangla Rock (capitalised) was created on 10 March by an anon user, perhaps from an old version of the page, and then edited to include an infobox headed "Bangla rock in India", but then redirected here by Nomian without merging any content. It seems to me that "Bangla rock" is a genre that deserves an article; perhaps a separate page on "rock music in Bangladesh" could also exist, but it seems wrong that the page page was renamed and then this became a reason to strip out content about Bangla rock in India. Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 10:05, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Fayenatic London 18:21, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

is there no page about kolkata bands on wikipedia? there should be! have u searched? Ricose (talk) 04:57, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
so there is a page indeed. here you go! - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_rock Ricose (talk) 04:59, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Bangladeshi rock is a major component of Bangladeshi music, hence the article and the title is justified! About the rock bands of Kolkata, you can add those contents in Indian rock as suggested by Ricose, or even in Music of West Bengal. --Zayeem (talk) 09:51, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: If this article is to be kept for the national category (rock music in Bangladesh) rather than than for the language, then (i) the first paragraph would need to be rewritten completely; and (ii) Bangla rock should not direct here, because most references in Wikipedia to Bangla rock seem to be to Kolkata bands. Music of Bengal might be the best place to rebuild a cross-national coverage of Bangla rock; Bangla band could be expanded, but should probably also be merged there. – Fayenatic London 20:27, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Well, you can't prove a point by referring to the articles in wikipedia as those are edited by various editors. Besides, as discussed you may add the contents about the bands of Kolkata in the suggested articles, but this page should not be merged or renamed. --Zayeem (talk) 12:06, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla rock

[edit]

When I do a Google news search for "bangla rock", the results are not all about Bangladesh; in fact, they are mainly about Kolkata. I therefore believe that Bangla rock and Bangla Rock should redirect to Music of Bengal rather than Bangladeshi rock. – Fayenatic London 20:40, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: Most of the results on the google news search on Bangla rock are not even about Bangla rock. Besides, the article on Music of Bengal talks about the general overview of Bengali music and Bangla rock doesn't get enough mention there. Whereas, the article Bangladeshi rock is totally dedicated to the Bangla rock music and as I mentioned in my edit summaries, Bangladeshi rock is also widely known as Bangla rock, hence Bangla rock should redirect to this page. --Zayeem (talk) 15:18, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Try it again putting double quotes around the phrase: like this. It's mostly about Kolkata, or other stories from India. Is this partly because India has more English-language media than Bangladesh? – Fayenatic London 19:51, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I actually found only one result clicking that link and that too about this page! And yes, India, being a multilingual country, has more English-language media than Bangladesh. From this thought, I just checked the search in Bangla and found almost all the results related to Bangladesh. --Zayeem (talk) 14:44, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Should I be correcting usage of serial commas so that they are the same throughout the article? The first couple paragraphs had no comma before and, but I am now coming across commas before and.Lorrie (talk) 15:24, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
