Citations

[edit]

Sorry, I should have left a rationale behind, since there was only one part which I found questionable in an otherwise well-cited article. I felt that the Winston Churchill quotation:"you are no longer needed", should have an inline citation, since it is a direct quotation. No other concerns on sourcing. --Patar knight - chat/contributions 23:25, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage and accuracy

[edit]

I had no concerns about the accuracy of the information, but the coverage is heavily centred on the Polish forces. I understand that your sources must be somewhat limited, but some information on non-Polish combatants would help balance the article. Furthermore, the infobox is very sparse on details, in contrast to other B-class articles on Battles. The aftermath section mainly mentions the Allies, and there is no indication of any German losses. The fate of the II Polish Corps is also unclear. Was it disbanded? Used for some garrison duties? --Patar knight - chat/contributions 17:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you raise good points, I'll see if I can address them in the future, although I am afraid I exhausted the publication I used. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 09:45, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

B-class review

[edit]

Confirmed for WPPOLAND following MILHIST review [1]. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:58, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Error (XIV. Panzer-Korps)

[edit]

The map BITWA O BOLONIE is incorrect in the following point: An alleged German "175 DP" is entered. This division did not exist. I suspect the following error, a transposed number: The 157th Mountain Division had been deployed in this area since the end of 1944. This Division changed its name to 8th Mountain Division in the spring of 1945. This 8th Mountain Division is also correctly entered in the map of US IV and II corps. Error (XIV. Panzer-Korps - missing units)

[edit]

In April 1945 were subordinated to the General-Command of the XIV Panzer Corps (from west to east):

  • 94th Infantry Division
  • 8th Mountain Division (changed name from 157th Mountain Division to 8th Mountain D. in spring 1945)
  • 65th Infantry Division
  • 305th Infantry Division

There are different opinions in the literature regarding the subordination of the 305th ID. However, the commanding general of the XIV. Panzer-Korps, Frido(lin) von Senger und Etterlin, confirmed several times and in detail, that the 305th ID had been subordinated to his general command since the end of January 1945 and also in April 1945 (see the book: Frido(lin) von Senger und Etterlin, "Krieg in Europa" (War in Europe), Kiepenheuer und Witsch-Verlag Köln / Berlin 1960. The commander of the 305th Infantry Division, Major General Friedrich von Schellwitz, was captured by the american 88th Infantry Division together with his general staff on April 23, 1945, still south of the Po (see the german Wikipedia "Friedrich von Schellwitz" with references). Most of the 305th ID was destroyed or captured south of the Po. Monte Pelmo (talk) 17:11, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Aftermath

[edit]

The information on the surrender of the Germans in Italy is incomplete. Although the surrender documents were signed in Caserta on April 29, 1945, the surrender only became effective on May 2, 1945 at 2:00 p.m. local time. The fighting continued until May 2, 1945. And Major General Pfeifer died on April 22, 1945 on the bridge in Finale Emilia during an air raid. Monte Pelmo (talk) 17:28, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
