[edit]I've removed the birthdate from the article as it is unfeasible given the generally agreed composition date of the Roman. Should the year of death be removed too? --Peter cohen 01:01, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
The standard edition is by Carin Fahlin
[edit]'The standard edition (of the Chronique) is by Carin Fahlin'. Interesting. I've always worked from the Francisque Michel edition, which is cited by Frédéric Godefroy in the Dictionnaire de l’ancienne langue. However, of course, Fahlin's edition came more than 50 years after Godefroy's death, so he couldn't have worked from that one. Renard Migrant (talk) 15:18, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
Roman de Rou
[edit]Die en auant que dire en deit:
I'ai dit por Maistre Beneeit
Qui cest[e] oure a dire a emprise,
Com li reis l'a desour li mise.
That is (roughly)
Disons d’abord qu’on doit dire
Je l’ai dit pour Maître Benoît
Qui a entrepris cet œuvre
Comme le roi l’a mis sur lui
And in English (again, roughly)
Let us say first of all that we must say
I've said for Master Benoît
Who has undertaken this work
As the king as put upon him
