[edit]Grossly biased article. Pakistani propaganda piece. My attempts to add a NPOV was denied by the big wigs. So long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.172.206.52 (talk) 17:06, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Butt vs Bhat
[edit]More and more awareness needs to be spread concerning this issue. The original word is "Bhat" and not "Butt", so the use of Butt by kashmiri muslims must be discouraged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.176.199.57 (talk) 22:39, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Butt = Weaver?
[edit]The precise origin of the genuine Butts that live in Pakistan is certain. The Butts in this region originate from the Kashmiri Valley. They were Brahmins before they converted to Islam. To this day there are Hindu and Muslim Butts in the Kashmir Valley as well —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.88.88.200 (talk) 18:35, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
I have met some Kashmiri Butt who say their ancestors were weavers (Julahay), and hence the word Butt (to weave). Hassanfarooqi (talk) 16:44, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
I think that's incorrect. Butt is a corruption of sanskrit "Bhatt" which is still used as a surname. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.172.206.52 (talk) 17:03, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
bhats were writers of family histories or genealogies and worked for brahmans. bhats would attend weddings and record new family tree of married couple or when they had a child. --92.15.238.12 (talk) 19:33, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
