Conrad Janis story
[edit]I can't find ANY evidence of this actually taking place, except on web-bot websites (like answers.com) that have word-for-word copies of the wikipedia article on their own site. I've removed it for being unverifiable. User:Sebbeng 21:02, 4 November 2006 (UTC) —The preceding comment signed as by Sebbeng (talk • contribs) was actually added by PanAndScan (talk • contribs) -
- The Conrad Janis incident happened, though not quite as described in the section you removed on 4 November 2006. I saw the interview with Janis on television wherein he was highly critical of Vila. The program included a clip from the taped deposition, where Vila admitted that he wasn't a licensed contractor, though I can't remember the exact year (late 1980s to early 1990s, before the World Wide Web was unleashed). Vila wasn't hired by Janis as a contractor; according to the television report, he owned the house, apparently having done some work on it while it was his, before he sold it to Janis. The house construction may have been a project of the Bob Vila’s Home Again television series, or Vila may have bought the property separately to use as his home while working on the Malibu house project for his series. Janis had bought the house in good faith and under the misapprehension that Vila was an expert in renovation, since he was, after all, the host of a television show on house renovation. If I remember correctly, the house is on Malibu Beach, California. The story may be verifiable for anyone willing to do some digging in court records, probably in Los Angeles County, unless the case was settled out of court. The complaints had to do mostly with leaky, noisy water pipes and noisy sewer lines. —QuicksilverT @ 00:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Bob Vila Home Again / Bob Vila Television Shows
[edit]I would like to see additional information added in reference to why the show was renamed. It seems odd that a show would go on for 15 years and then suddenly be renamed. Is this because of a lawsuit or a change of focus? Is this not even the same show or the same production company? I did notice Bob seems to have gone solo now with no other regulars on the show (Bob Riley used to always be the carpenter used in the Home Again series). The present "Bob Vila" shows that I have seen rely much more on product placement and semi-visible sponsorship than the old "Home Again" shows. If anyone has any info please add it. - I do recall that the series was renamed during production last year. You may have noticed during the episodes last year of the Florida home rebuilding project that the show was heavily edited to eliminate most references to or mentions of "Home Again". Steelbeard1 22:44, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- KingWorld regards them as separate shows. WizardDuck 03:56, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- According to my memory, Bob Vila hosted a very popular home improvement show on WVIZ (PBS Cleveland) featuring the renovation of a home on Bessemer Ave. (Cleveland). It ran in the late 1970s, was called "Home, Again", and was one of my favorite shows on our local PBS station. That's where the name of the show came from! It's curious that there's nothing about that in this article. Didn't that show lead to his invitation to host This Old House? If I'm right, this would mark a very important phase of his career -- the very beginning.Ajrocke (talk) 17:13, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
