Untitled

[edit]

Bui Tuong Phong passes the Google test and is a notable individual in computer design. [1]Bnguyen 22:17, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was there ever any doubt? He was one the most influential computer graphics guys of all time, but cut short in his prime. Dicklyon 23:17, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

Is there anything known about his death? I googled about it but didn't find much, yet he died the same year as his Phong shading paper was released... and at 33 years old, which is somewhat tragic. 67.68.227.31 01:14, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some kind of cancer. I haven't found out what exactly, though I've asked people who knew him. Dicklyon 02:09, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is so sad, how lovely it would have been if he was alive today to see such awesome video games created using his pioneering techniques. I would love to know more about him.... 67.173.189.206 (talk) 06:30, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New material

[edit]

Thanhnguyen, the new material about Phong and his life is great and all, but is definitely original research (see WP:OR). If you could publish a paper on it, maybe with Ivan as co-author, then we could use that as a published reference. Or ask Frank Crow to co-author something with you; he was Phong's office mate there. Otherwise, the new material is really not suitable for wikipedia. Dicklyon 02:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name of school

[edit]

I can find no school named Institut de Recherche d'Ingénieur et d'Automatique, nor IRIA. Should this be Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique (INRIA)? Colonies Chris (talk) 10:41, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Needed?

[edit]

The statement tagged as needing a citation ("As a computer graphics icon, it still crops up in highly respected journals and animated features") is a quotation from the referenced McDermott article. So it has a citation. However, it is not clear if it is still true today. I have not seen the VW image for a long time. (But I have been out of computer graphics for a long time!) Maybe it should be removed. Thirteenangrymen (talk) 11:25, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
