Controversies or not?

[edit]

Wasn't the recasting of Carly controversial two of the times it happened? If "Controversies" is not the best title to use for the part of the Casting section that goes into specific detail about the casting, I say that it is still better offset by some other title; it is not about awards like the beginning part is and is rather about how those two casting upsets, well, upset a lot of people. Flyer22 (talk) 20:37, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see that AniMate sort of tweaked the Casting section by not naming all the actresses who have portrayed Carly right at the beginning. Still, on the Internet, however, I have been led to believe that recasting Carly was controversial two times. Flyer22 (talk) 00:42, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, I tottaly say it was controversy. Soap Opera digest even stated that when Tamara Braun entered the role in 2001, she "fought a firestorm of controversy"--Leslie Roak (talk) 22:07, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So are we suggesting that two of the three recasts be moved to a separate section for controversies? That doesn't seem particularly clueful, since apparently not all of the recasts were controversial. The way I've structured it, we have presented the information and the readers can infer if it is controversial or not. Also, when is recasting a popular character not controversial. AniMatedraw 04:05, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The way you have now structured the Casting section, it would not make as much sense to have a subsection titled "Controversies." I, of course, started this discussion when the first part of the Casting section was about all the actresses who have been cast as Carly and the awards any of them have won for their portrayal of this character. The subsection that was there, as I mentioned above, went into detail about the casting and was mostly about the upsets regarding the recasting. Now that you have changed the Casting section, the entire section could be titled "Casting and controversy," but I understand your point about leaving it as it is. And, yeah, recasting popular characters is usually controversial, LOL, unless it is a character that has been recast several (or more) times...such as Batman, etc. With soap operas, if they wait long enough and if the character was not portrayed by one actor/actress for too long, such as in the case of Kendall Hart, it is not as controversial and may not be controversial at all. CARLY AND JAX ARE NOT MARRIED

[edit]

One of the first times she was with Johnny, he said "what about Jax?", and carly clear stated "I singed the divorce papers. Its over".Caringtype1 (talk) 22:21, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She never filed them, so without filing them, they're still legally married under the law. MusicFreak7676 TALK! 16:34, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed

[edit]

Shouldn't this page be renamed Carly Jacks? She never says Carly Corinthos anymore. NateG4 (talk) 20:42, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Most fans and commentators still identify her as Corinthos, she used it for many, many years, and Jacks is still pretty new.Caringtype1 (talk) 20:44, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

The edit warring on Carly's name (on other pages linking here) is driving me crazy. Can we come to consensus? She definitely has not dropped "Jacks" from her name (I remember a recent episode I can track down if really necessary). Some use "Carly Corinthos Jacks", "Carly Jacks", "Carly Corinthos" or "Carly Benson". All these names do redirect here. Personally I think it should either be Carly Jacks, or Carly Cortinthos Jacks (I believe the name has been used this way, and it would encompass the commonname of the article). But I am okay with any consensus we can reach to stop the warring.

One sidenote, please correct me if I'm wrong - in the text of a plot summary, her name at the time should be used (via piped link). It wouldn't make sense to say "Carly Jacks seduced Tony Jones", etc, correct? Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 14:34, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Addition - ABC refers to her as Carly Corinthos Jacks. I think that's what should be used in the text of articles. Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 22:17, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think Carly Jacks is her most used name, whenever she refers to herself, she refers to it as Mrs. Jacks. She uses Jacks. Per WP:COMMONNAME, her page remains at Carly Corinthos. livelikemusic my talk page! 17:53, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Carly CorinthosCarly Corinthos Jacks – The character has gone by Carly Jacks for the past five years, and Jacks has become equally a WP:COMMONNAME as Corinthos. Including both names in the common name and article title seems the best way to stop the edit warring on multiple pages that reference the character. The series does the same, crediting the character as Carly Corinthos Jacks. Relisted. BDD (talk) 22:04, 4 June 2013 (UTC) Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 16:38, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. She's been Carly Corinthos for over 10+ years and that trumps her last name Jacks. Plus, the name Corinthos is more associated with her character given her portrayal from Sarah Brown and Tamara Braun. And the series is only crediting her as such because it's her current legal name in the series. 71.233.227.127 (talk) 18:20, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ten+ years is incorrect, she was Carly Corinthos from 2000-07, and has used Jacks 2007-13, almost equal lengths. I do not disagree that Corinthos is still associated with her, but Jacks is also associated with her, enough so that they should both be used to avoid confusion and edit wars. Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 18:23, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I still disagree. Publications (physical) still reference her as Carly Corinthos. And during her splits from Jax, she didn't always use Jacks. I think if people can't handle it and put themselves into edit-wars, that's their own faults. 71.233.227.127 (talk) 18:32, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Publications also reference her as Carly Jacks and Carly Corinthos Jacks. Both names have become common. Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 18:37, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't support the move. Corinthos has been her commonname for many, many years. It is still debatable whether Jacks is a common name for her at all. Since she has used Jacks for a few years, I guess it could count as a common name for the character, but WP:Commonname doesn't say to lump all the character's common names together. Jacks is her legal name within the series, the website using "Corinthos Jacks", just shows how much the character is widely identified as Carly Corinthos.Caringtype1 (talk) 18:41, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Carly Corinthos and Carly Jacks produce about 40,000 Google hits each, while Carly Corinthos Jacks produces 114,000 hits. Google News Archive shows multiple sources that reference the character as Carly Jacks and some as Carly Corinthos Jacks. Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 18:59, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What is the relevancy of the Google results? Wouldn't more hits on google be a wider and more difficult search for people than less hits?Caringtype1 (talk) 18:32, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Physical publications (such as Soap Opera Digest and Soaps In Depth still refer to her as Carly Corinthos. That should hold water in this discussion. 71.233.227.127 (talk) 18:47, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. There was a requested move to the same page, a few years back, which received no (valid) support.Caringtype1 (talk) 19:30, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More hits shows more website pages that use the searched term. She is referenced both ways, both in print and online publications. The names have been used for equal length and sometimes together, as the network credits the character as. Kelly Marie 0812 (talk) 07:54, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
