Stained Glass image[edit]

The congregation wishes to have the image removed ("A stained glass window honours Ryerson"). Mkooiman (talk) 11:21, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's a free image so 'the congregation' has no say in what photo can and cannot be on Wikipedia since it was not taken by them. If you want to have a discussion about how you believe the image does not relate to the article, that can be had, but just saying WP:IDONTLIKEIT won't get your point across. It's hardly unusual for an article on a church to have a single image, specifically of the exterior. And given the article length, it throws off the layout anyway. Now, is the stained glass window itself noteworthy? I think probably not, though Ryerson himself serving here means it's not a totally arbitrary inclusion. While the decision lies with the Wikipedia community rather than the church's congregation, I would not oppose its removal. --BDD (talk) 14:56, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is NOTCENSORED. That someone finds an image distasteful is irrelevant if it is illustrating the subject. Here, the picture does just that, and highlights a unique part of the church. Perhaps it is not a part that the congregants like anymore, but in that case, perhaps they ought have the window removed from the building itself. Removing an image of it from the internet is whitewashing, not reconciliation. History is not always sunshine and butterflies, and it is Wikipedia's job to document it, warts and all.
