Male and female distinction needed

[edit]

Table doesn't give a distinction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.96.235 (talk) 14:00, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mandarin and Cantonese

[edit]

It appears that only Mandarin names are posted here. Would it be possible to get Cantonese names here as well?(162.140.67.10 (talk) 17:51, 19 September 2012 (UTC))[reply]

common names

[edit]

In the list of common names, are these the most common combinations of surname and given name, or what? —Tamfang (talk) 18:15, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Combinations, but the wikipedia table is probably vandalized, or edited incorrectly: the first entries don't match the linked source. At the linked source table, you can see it better: three of the first four entries have the same given name, but different surnames. "Common Chinese names" table updated incorrectly or vandalized

[edit]

The "common names" table is probably vandalized, or edited incorrectly: the first entries don't match the linked source. Someone has modified the table in the wikipedia article to put names other than those in the table, possibly their own names or their friends'. The number-of-names column matches the source, but the names are different. From the linked source, the top of the table is: 1. 张伟 290607, 2. 王伟 281568, 3. 王芳 268268, 4. 李伟 260980. In the current version of the wikipedia page, the entries are 1. 黄麗 290607, 2. 王偉 281568, 3. 王芳 268268, 4. 李偉 260980. (Source link is http://www.69fw.com/qiming/mzdq/18813.html, current wiki version is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chinese_given_name&oldid=911735578 .) "Common Chinese names" table should be given names only, no surnames

[edit]

A table that includes surnames is less helpful on the relative popularity of given names, the topic of this article, than a table of given names only would be. Qwertyzoop (talk) 04:03, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. —Tamfang (talk) 18:25, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

initials

[edit]

Please add a section defining how to make initials of given name. Question: Is Xiùyīng Wu == XY Wu, or == X Wu? --SCIdude (talk) 09:30, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Only given names translated

[edit]

In the table, only the given name is translated. This seems like an odd choice for an English-language wiki--making the point of the chart much harder for an English speaker to comprehend. Nareek (talk) 11:50, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
