Name[edit]

According do DVK, the English name is Citizen's alliance of Gregor Virant. Shall we follow? --Tone 12:38, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a convincing reason to do so, as this name is rarely used and alliance has a different meaning. Also, the correct possessive form would be citizens'. However, STA and UKOM use the name Citizens' List of Gregor Virant, so I think it would make sense to change to this name.[1] What do you think? --Eleassar my talk 22:33, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I propose as follows: soon, the party will have to upload an English version of its website (and it will probably start negotiations to enter European alliances), and we can follow its own self-designation. Until then, I would leave it as it is. DVK's naming is made ad hoc and doesn't sound very convincing to me. As for the term civic vs. citizen's. I think the term državljanski as used by the DLVG translates better to "civic". The Webster dictionary defines "civic" as "related to a city, a citizen or citizenship". Furthermore, it is used also in a more strictly political sense (civic duties, civic courage, civic participation, but also civic liberalism etc.): if one looks at the programmatic statement of the party, the adjective "državljanski" is used precisely in this sense, as a Slovene translation of the term "civic" - namely, as something reminding of civic duties, civic ethics, civic participation etc. Viator slovenicus (talk) 23:24, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, a good example is the Czech Civic Democratic Party. In the original, the adjective used is "Občanská", which has exactly the same meaning as the Slovenian "državljanska". Viator slovenicus (talk) 23:28, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, no need to hurry with renaming. --Tone 09:03, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
