Bedford school web page as a source

[edit]

I wonder whether anyone else has the same uneasy feeling about accepting a school webpage as a biography for the new Crime commissioner elect?
It sounds like a really bad joke not a reliable source. Any thoughts about where we can get anything better? JRPG (talk) 23:24, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiled ballots?

[edit]

The article, quoting from the Leicester Mercury, says "More than 8400" ballot papers were spoilt or incorrectly filled in." This source, however, used in England and Wales Police and Crime Commissioner elections, 2012, says: "The total number of ballot papers rejected at the first count is 3,371". Loader got 48.43% of the valid first round votes, not "47%". He was elected as a result of the second round votes, of which he got 64.66%. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:09, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marvellous. I don't trust either source now, the merc as it may be the results were being altered as it was printing and the NW Leicestershire results as it managed to lose the edge of the rh column from the spoilt ballot papers figures. The Guardian report which allows sorting of the data has 2.65% spoilt for Leicestershire (or Leiscestershire as it spells it elsewhere :)) and 15.92% turnout. I've downloaded the spreadsheet, it looks excellent and it should give all the information needed. Hopefully adding up the numbers in the spreadsheet won't be deemed wp:or. Feel free to alter, I'm out for a few hours now. JRPG (talk) 17:20, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Have replaced the Mercury figure and source with that Guardian percentage and source. Not sure what to do about that other percentage and turnout figure. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:32, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay in replying, and thanks for making the changes. The Guardian should be the most reliable source for everything post election. I'm not sure if there are still contradictions, but if so on this occasion, the Guardian should have precedence. You can quote this talk page discussion if changing a source.
