Police

[edit]

Isn't CBS under the RCMP's jurisdiction and NOT the RNC as said in the article? I'm fairly confident the police station on Cherry Lane is RCMP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.162.71.245 (talk) 14:42, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Street patrol in CBS is performed by the RNC. The RCMP patrol from the adjacent detachment at Holyrood. There is some overlap in jurisdiction, such as drug enforcement etc.. The Cherry Lane office, a former school board property is occupied by RNC street patrol.

CBS a town while Corner Brook is a city?

[edit]

I find it mildly amusing that Conception Bay South is considered a 'town' when it has a higher population that Corner Brook. Does anyone know why?

Yes. In order to become a city, the town council, possibly via referendum must vote to incorporate as a city. It's not an automatic distinction based on population, although areas of large and dense population usually are incorporated into a city. CBS is a very large area with a relatively low population density than say, Mount Pearl. --WPaulB (talk) 20:04, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

[edit]

Why do Chamberlains and Foxtrap redirect here? It is not explained in the text. --Qyd (talk) 01:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This:

The town was formed in 1973 through the amalgamation of nine communities: Topsail, Chamberlains, Manuels, Long Pond, Foxtrap, Kelligrews, Upper Gullies, Lawrence Pond and Seal Cove. The name "Manuels" is retained in a river in the east of Conception Bay South, known as Manuels River.

Was not Foxtrap and perhaps Seal Cove excluded from the first amalgamation (1973)? There was a contentious annexation of Foxtrap in 1985(?) with protests at some of the hearings.

Fred Squires Shield
[edit]

".....There is also an annual competition between the two high school hockey teams each year called the Fred Squires shield........dedicated to Fred Squires who was very involved in hockey with the two schools until his death on the Ocean Ranger disaster in 1982...."

I think Mr. Squires was involved in a fatal automobile accident in 1988(?) and was involved with the Red Cross. His name is not on the memorial list for the Ocean Ranger.[1]
