Nationality

[edit]

Conny Jepsen was a Danish citizen at the time of his triumph in All England in 1947 according to this article from National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark. The headline "Var han dansker eller svensker?" translates to "Was he Danish or Swedish?" and the answer to that is that although Jepsen escaped to Sweden during the war in 1943 and sayed there after the war, he was still a Danish citizen in february 1947 where he was interviewed in the Danish magazine Idrætsbladet. In a quote he stated: "I am still Danish and I will not apply for it [Swedish citizenship]." Apparently, he was a member of a Swedish club when winning the All England trophy, which explains the persistent statistics of him being Swedish, but the fact remains that he was Danish at that time.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find other information of Conny Jepsen than what is written in the article mentioned so e.g. his birthdate and later life is unknown, including information of if he later got a Swedish citizenship and of whether he is still alive. The first year mentioned in the article is 1939 when he won the national championship in DK and this could lead to an estimated birth of around 1920. So he might still be alive, but he might also be dead now. --Amjaabc (talk) 11:53, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
