Were TUV and/or UKIP invited?
[edit]According to the terms of the establishing resolution, members included "a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly from each of the political parties in the Assembly which accepts an invitation from the Government". Thus, strictly speaking, there was nothing to oblige the Government to invite all parties in the NIA. The cited source says "Sinn Féin, the SDLP, the Alliance Party, the Green Party, the UUP, and the DUP have all been invited to participate." This suggests the other two parties with MLAs, Traditional Unionist Voice and UK Independence Party, were not invited. Of course they would be even less likely than UUP and DUP to accept, both from their political outlook and from the practical fact that each has only one MLA (though the latter limitation didn't prevent the Greens accepting). But I would have thought the government would have invited them for form's sake. It would be nice to get confirmation one way or the other. I presume David McClarty, as an independent, was not entitled to an invitation. jnestorius(talk) 19:08, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Deadline exceeded?
[edit]The resolution establishing the Convention says it should report "in any event not later than one year from the date of the first public hearing." The final meetings are in February 2014, while the first public hearing was in December 2012 or January 2013 depending on your definition of "hearing". What gives? jnestorius(talk) 17:09, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- The Dáil and Seanad resolutions is a courtesy. In reality, the Convention is run under the aegis of the Dept. of the Taoiseach. The Chairman (Tom Arnold) asked the Taoiseach to extend the period of the Convention until March (source). The Taoiseach agreed. I cannot find a written source verifying the Taoiseach agreement. Though, I sure one exists if we dig hard enough. --Tóraí (talk) 16:23, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
